The San Francisco Giants have started spring training as they look to improve on their 81-81 record last season. San Francisco moved on from manager Bob Melvin and hired Tony Vitello, who coaches at the University of Tennessee. He coached eight seasons at Tennessee and went 341-131. Vitello led the Vols to the 2024 College World Series. In spring training, there are a lot of players on the roster, which means tons to watch. For the Giants, the players are Bryce Eldridge, Jerar Encarnacion, and Bo Davidson.
Bryce Eldridge 1B/DH
The Gaints drafted Eldridge with the 16th pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. During his first season on the rookie level, Eldridge played 31 games and batted .294 with six home runs and 18 RBIs. In 2025, Eldridge spent time in rookie ball, Double-A, Triple-A, and the majors. In the minors, he batted .260 with 25 home runs and 84 RBIs. 18 of those homes came in Triple-A. In the Majors, Eldridge had 3 hits in 28 at-bats.
This season, Eldride is looking to push for a role at first base or as the DH. Eldridge is the Giants’ top prospect and has raw power with 40 home run potential. He will need to be selective at the plate because he is overly aggressive at times. He could play a big role with the Giants this season
Jerar Encarnación OF
Encarnacion has been with the Giants since 2024, when he signed a minor league contract. He was signed by the Miami Marlins in 2015.
Encarnacion played 33 games in Triple-A last season and batted .352 with ten home runs and 33 RBIs. He also appeared in 35 games with the Giants and hit .248 with five home runs and 19 RBIs. He is out of options, so he will need a strong spring to make the team. Encarnación could add power to the Giants’ outfield, which has not had much. He has a strong arm in the outfield but is a questionable fielder. It will be interesting to see what the Giants will do with him if he plays well.
Bo Davidson OF
The Giants snatched up Davidson as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Last season in A+ and Double-A ball, Davidson hit .281 with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs, while stealing 19 bases—Davidson hasgood bat speed and power. He is a good fastball hitter. Davuson also has plus speed and is an average defender. With a strong spring, he could move to Triple-A, but most likely will start in Double-A.
San Francisco finally has some young prospects they can look forward to, but they need the players will need to prove they can do it on the field. The young players need to play when called up; they can only get better with at-bats and time in the majors. Eldridge will be the main player the Giants will need to contribute right away if they want to compete against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
