We finally made it to the last major of the season as the world’s best golfers head to The Open Championship. And I try to finally pick a winner to end my cold streak for my Betting Guide.
I continue to be close as Matt Fitzpatrick was in the hunt until a faulty putter doomed his chances of the back 9 at the Genesis Scottish Open. Tom Kim took home the victory.
This week the world’s elite head to Royal Birkdale Golf Club for the 154th Open Champion in Southport, Merseyside, England.
Scottie Scheffler won The Open Championship last year, but with its rotating courses for the major, it is a new links-style course challenge for the pros each year.
Weather currently looks to be mild for the week with minimal wind for an Open Championship. Scores could go low this weekend.
Enough of the chatter, let’s get into some plays! All odds are from DraftKings.

Betting Guide: Bets to Win
Matt Fitzpatrick (-1750)
I’m going right back to Matty Fitz as his all-around game is a nice fit for the Royal Birkdale layout.
Though the winds may be at a minimum, Fitzpatrick has the accuracy, the approach game and strong play around the greens on a dry and fast course.
His only weakness is the putter that comes and goes on him. But when it’s on, he should be near the top of the leaderboard.
Si Woo Kim (+4600)
Si Woo is the highest ranked golfer in the FedExCup standings without a victory as he is currently 7th.
And his elite approach game fits nicely at Royal Birkdale, and what he lacks in distance he makes up in accuracy. He is 3rd in accuracy off the tee this season.
But it still comes down to his putter, just like Matty Fitz. Si Woo has made small strides with the flat stick this season, but he is still about average in shots gained: Putting at 96th.
Russell Henley (+7000)
Henley has one win under his belt this season and his short and accurate game could be a sneaky winner at Royal Birkdale.
He’s No. 1 in accuracy off the tee, No. 2 scrambling and No. 3 in bogey avoidance, and other than his driving distance, he’s well above average in the other categories I used this week on DFS spreadsheet.
Henley has two Top 10 finishes in the last two Open Championship.
Top 20 with ties
Adam Scott (+270): Scott didn’t play in The Open Championship last year, but he has two Top 20 finishes in his last three Open Championships
Jordan Smith (+395): Smith shared the lead at the Genesis Scottish Open after the second round last week before faltering, but he’s accurate off the tee and has a strong approach game.
One and Done
Patrick Reed: This is our last chance to use Reed, and he has played solid in 2 of the 3 majors this season (T10 at PGA Championship and T12 at the Masters).
