Just a few notes as I create this list:
- I will not be doing score predictions as it’s almost impossible to predict with injuries and trades can happen at any point.
- This was written on September 3rd, so any transactions ahead of this date won’t be fully reflected in my predictions.
- Finally, Go Bills!
Record Predictions
Week 1: Ravens @ Bills
Starting week 1 with a bang as the Ravens come to Buffalo in a Sunday night season opener. On one hand, the Ravens have demolished us in the regular season and likewise us to them in the playoffs. Every time the Bills face Derrick Henry in the regular season, Henry puts a Buffalo defender on his season highlight reel. Ravens take this one as the Bills start 0-1.
Week 2: Bills @ Jets
New Head Coach Aaron Glenn may be the answer, but his defensive background won’t do the questionable Jets offense any justice. Buffalo quickly gets its first win of the season and moves to 1-1.
Week 3: Dolphins @ Bills
This is a strange matchup. Sure, it’s a division opponent, but the Dolphins have had so much inconsistent football over the last season and a half. Tuas’ injury history mixed with Tyreek Hill‘s regression. I don’t see the offense keeping up with Buffalo’s, especially when they downgraded significantly on defense, losing Jevon Holland and Jalen Ramsey. Bringing back Minkah Fitzpatrick won’t be enough to slow down reigning MVP Josh Allen as they go to 2-1.
Week 4: Saints @ Bills
Like the Jets, the Saints have a very questionable offense as rookie Tyler Shough may be starting at this point, but I’m going to assume Spencer Rattler hasn’t been benched this quickly. Either way, whichever QB is under center, it won’t change my mind, as this is one of the easiest games to predict on the schedule. Buffalo wins three straight and goes 3-1 to start the season.
Week 5: Patriots @ Bills
I selected Mike Vrabel as my coach of the year winner. I have high hopes for the Patriots to get back on track, but it may take until the second half of the season for this team to really break out. At home early in the season, I’ll take Buffalo to move to 4-1.
Week 6: Bills @ Falcons
Every win streak has to come to an end, Atlanta is my breakout team in the NFC this year with Michael Penix Jr. putting the league on notice last season, Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and adding two first round pass rushers, this team is destined to make noise and they will by upsetting Buffalo to give the Bills their 2nd loss of the season and go to 4-2.
Week 7: Bye
A bye week will give some much-needed rest to the likely injured Joey Bosa.
Week 8: Bills @ Panthers
The Bills visit the Panthers, and that may be the only exciting thing about this matchup is the view around the stadium, as the Panthers have no weapons other than unproven rookie Tetairoa McMillan. Buffalo moves to 5-2 and wins this with ease.
Week 9: Chiefs @ Bills
The AFC juggernaut Chiefs visit Buffalo in yet another Brady–Manning-esque matchup. MVP vs MVP. Can’t get any better than that. Rashee Rice will also be in this game now that we know his suspension will be up, mixed with Buffalo’s round pick, Maxwell Hairston. I’m going to go with Buffalo as we’ve gotten the better out of Andy Reid and the Chiefs in the regular season. 6-2.
Week 10: Bills @ Dolphins
A week 3 rematch, I have the Bills sweeping the Dolphins this year as they have too many question marks on defense, and with the Tyreek Hill drama and regression last season, I don’t have much faith in their offense except for Devon Achane. Buffalo gets their 7th win, 7-2.
Week 11: Buccaneers @ Bills
Buffalo needs a win here as they’ll have a rough stretch of 4 of the next 5 games being on the road against some formidable defenses around the league. I love the Bucs offense, but I love the Bills offense more. This will be a high-scoring game with both teams going over 30. Bills take the win here and move to 8-2.
Week 12: Bills @ Texans
The Texans’ offense will be taking a step back with the loss of Laremy Tunsil on an already rough offensive line. Add in a questionable run game with Joe Mixon possibly missing extended time, and we have no idea when to expect him back. Buffalo wins this with ease. 9-2.
Week 13: Bills @ Steelers
Buffalo heads to steal the city and faces the new-look Pittsburgh Steelers with key additions Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jonnu Smith, Jalen Ramsey, and Darius Slay. These additions might be enough for the Steelers to make some noise in the AFC, but not enough against a proven Bills team, as Buffalo wins a low-scoring game in Pittsburgh and advances to 10-2.
Week 14: Bengals @ Bills
Coming off a tough game in Pittsburgh in the trenches, a weakened Buffalo defense isn’t enough to hold down Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. Like the Bucs game, this will be a high-scoring game, but with Buffalo having some injury-prone defensive players in Joey Bosa and Tre’Davious White. I can’t rely on them to be healthy this late into the season, especially after a couple of tough road matchups. Bengals give the Bills another loss, and Buffalo goes to 10-3.
Week 15: Bills @ Patriots
After falling to the Bills in week 5, the Patriots should be firing on all cylinders by week 15 in an attempt at a playoff push. Mike Vrabel and 2nd-year QB Drake Maye upset Buffalo in New England, handing the Bills back-to-back losses for the first time this season. 10-4.
Week 16: Bills @ Browns
With a two-game losing streak, Buffalo bounces back against a demolished Cleveland team that is out of the playoff hunt by week 16 and likely starting one of their rookie QBs. This will be another game the Buffalo win with ease as they get back in the win column. 11-4.
Week 17: Eagles @ Bills
A potential Super Bowl preview between the Eagles and Bills in the cold and windy city of Buffalo. I expect the weather to play a bigger factor as this game will be played at the tail end of December. Surprisingly, that may play better into the hands of the Eagles’ offense with Saquon Barkley behind one of the best offensive line units in the league. For now, I’ll give the edge to Buffalo for simply having home-field advantage. Buffalo moves to 12-4 in a nail-biter.
Week 18: Jets @ Bills
The last regular-season game at Highmark Stadium doesn’t disappoint. With the Jets being out of the playoffs in week 18 and Buffalo likely needing a win here for a chance at the one seed, Buffalo dominates the Jets to give fans something to remember and end the season 13-4.
Recap
Buffalo finishes 13-4 with losses in the home opener against the Ravens, gets upset by the Falcons, loses to the offensive powerhouse Bengals, and finally splits the series with the much-improved Patriots. I believe the ceiling for the Buffalo Bills this season will be 15 wins, and the floor will be 11 wins. In both scenarios, they clinch the division yet again and continue to stamp the 2020s as Buffalo’s reign in the AFC East.
