Buffalo Bills’ Biggest Needs Ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft

April is here, and with that, we are officially three weeks away from the NFL Draft, arguably the best part of the offseason for fans. The Buffalo Bills have pick 26 and look to add the final piece to a potential Super Bowl run. Let’s take a look at the current projected depth chart, the strengths and weaknesses, and lastly, what positions Buffalo will likely prioritize.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: QB, RB, TE, C

These position groups have typically been our most reliable over the years. Josh Allen is one of the most physical yet healthy QBs of this era. Our RB room is one of the best in the league, featuring the 2025 rushing leader, James Cook, and Ty Johnson, who makes a significant impact in the passing game on 3rd downs.

The TE room has suffered some setbacks due to injuries, but the tandem of Kincaid and Knox is one of the best duos in the league. Buffalo brought back C Connor McGovern on a four-year, $52 million deal, solidifying the position over the foreseeable future.

Buffalo would greatly surprise me by drafting any one of these positions, as they aren’t a need in the slightest, mixed with the glaring needs elsewhere.

Room For Improvement: WR, T, EDGE, NT, CB

Despite the addition of veteran WR DJ Moore, Buffalo still lacks depth at the position. As it stands, Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer will be fighting for the WR3 spot, which is honestly scary. Tackle is one of our best positions with Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown; however, like WR, we lack depth in the event one of them goes down.

Edge and NT are also solidified for the upcoming season, but we lack depth. Edge Michael Hoecht has two years left, but has a void year, allowing Buffalo to move on after this season. As for the NT position, I love Deone Walker and what he brought to the defense as a rookie. Beyond him, Buffalo really doesn’t have a traditional NT behind Walker.

Maxwell Hairston played in 11 but only started in three games last season. In the limited time we’ve seen, Hairston has proven that he has the potential to be a great corner in the league. Hairston and Benford will be a formidable combination this season. Buffalo just needs to add another boundary Corner before the season begins.

I expect the Bills to use at least three of their seven picks on these position groups, specifically a WR in the first or third round.

Weaknesses: G, DE, LB, S

The departure of G David Edwards is unfortunate, though Buffalo recently signed veteran G Austin Corbett and C Lloyd Cushenberry III. In a class that isn’t too deep at Guard, Buffalo may just have Corbett and returning G Alec Anderson battle for the starting job in camp. DE is in a strange spot as the Bills transitioned to a 3-4, which places T.J. Sanders as the other DE, and he’s simply not ready for that role yet.

The LB unit is one of the weakest areas of the team. Terrel Bernard is coming off a season in which he only played 11 games, and he appeared not to be 100% healthy following a hamstring injury in camp and an ankle injury in week 6. Even if Bernard can get healthy and play at the level we’ve seen in the past, Dorian Williams is the LB opposite of Bernard currently, and he’s simply not a starting-caliber guy.

The safeties are similar to our Edges; we got a guy in Cole Bishop, and the rest are guys on short-term deals. GM Brandon Beane signed CJ Gardner-Johnson and Geno Stone at the start of free agency, followed by bringing back Damar Hamlin last week. Buffalo still needs a long-term answer at safety to pair with Cole Bishop.

Recap

The Bills are poised to make another move, could be to trade up and grab their guy, or another trade to acquire veteran talent and if their guy isn’t available at 26, it could be yet another year where we trade down.

As it currently stands the Bills have 7 draft picks, no 2nd rounder, but a pair of 5ths. I expect the draft results (pending a trade) to look somewhat like this:

Round 1: WR/LB

Round 3: WR/G (WR if we didn’t draft one in round 1)

Round 4: Edge/DE

Round 5: Edge/DE/NT

Round 5: T/NT

Round 6: CB/LB

Round 7: K/WR
