An early look at DraftKings Week 1 Main Slate: Quarterbacks & Tight Ends

We’ve now had a couple of weeks to get an early look at the prices for the DraftKings’ Week 1 Main Slate.

I’m going to give out a few standouts my NFL DFS spreadsheet for quarterbacks and tight ends, based on their pricing and value.

During the season, I will giving out some of my top DFS/fantasy plays of the week in our weekly articles, while I will give my complete spreadsheet in our paid Discord. Now is a good time join the Blitz Sports Media Discord before the season starts.

Let’s get into my early DFS plays.

Quarterback

Bryce Young, Carolina and Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville

I’ve grouped these two together since they are facing each other in a Week 1 contest in Jacksonville.

Young was an obvious choice to me before I even punched in the numbers into the spreadsheet. The Carolina QB’s price is below $6K ($5,700) and his play during the final few weeks of the 2024 season suggests he may be in store for a breakout in 2025. Young averaged 24.11 DraftKings points during the last four weeks of the 2024 season.

And then there is the Jacksonville defense. The Jaguars’ No. 1 pick Travis Hunter is going to be 2-way NFL player at wide receiver and cornerback, but it’s not enough to overcome last year’s shoddy unit. The Jags D gave up the most passing yards (4,581 yards) and third most fantasy points per game (23.0) vs. QBs in 2024. The unit also gave up 29 TD passes and only had 6 interceptions. Plus, the Jags was a Top 10 team for rushing yards allowed (419) vs. QBs.

Now as bad as the Jacksonville defense was Carolina defense was a little worse, giving up 23.2 points per game to QBs and gave up a league-high 35 TD passes. And Lawrence ($5,300) returns to an offense that saw Brian Thomas Jr. blossom with Mac Jones under center.

Lawrence was able to put together a couple of 20-plus DraftKings’ points game before going down with a shoulder injury. And he was able to combine with Thomas Jr. for one early breakout game in Week 5 last season as the two connected on 5 passes for 122 and a TD.

With a healthy shoulder and two talented WRs in Thomas Jr. and Hunter, it gives Lawrence a chance to shine in Week 1.

Tight End

David Njoku, Cleveland

Njoku is on the higher end of TE pricing at $4,700, but his upside in Week 1 is hard to ignore.

The Browns play host to AFC North Division rival Cincinnati, and the Bengals gave up the most fantasy points to TEs in 2024. The Bengals allowed TEs to score 13.4 points per game, and Njoku averaged 19.1 DraftKings points in the teams’ two matchups last year.

Plus, Joe Flacco should have the starting nod at QB for the Browns on opening weekend, if he’s not injured. Flacco helped Njoku average 18.2 points a game in 2023 in Weeks 13-17.

I’ve been playing fantasy football since 1993 and seen and played a little of everything in our great game of fantasy football. I’m a true fan of the PPR format and been known to do a spreadsheet or two for NFL DFS. When not consumed by fantasy sports, I enjoy taking vacation with my family, especially to Universal Orlando, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Mackinaw Island and Disney World and I love to dabble into sports card trading.
