The Los Angeles Chargers got a boost in their running game this morning as they signed former Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell to a two-year deal for $9.25 million. Mitchell will look to carve out the De’Von Achane role in this offense with his 4.3 forty speed.0
Having battled injuries over the course of the last two seasons before last year, Baltimore decided not to keep him as a restricted free agent. When they decided to let him test the market, this paved the way for Mitchell to sign with the Chargers early this morning. This signing comes at a time when the Chargers were looking to fill their RB3 role to complement with Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal. Mitchell will also be looking to provide a spark in the return game for the Chargers.
Mitchell played 13 games last year, totaling 341 yards and a touchdown, while averaging 26.2 rushing yards per game. While those numbers may not seem eye-popping, he will still play a key role in Mike McDaniel’s offense. His scheme is based on a zone running game, which is primarily outside the tackles, where Mitchell will look to flourish.
