The Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Jacoby Brissett have reached a deal to increase his compensation for the 2026 season. It’s a one-year, $15.5 million guaranteed deal worth up to $21 million with incentives, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Brissett is Arizona’s QB1
The new deal confirms the Cardinals’ plans at quarterback. Jacoby Brissett will be the team’s starting quarterback to begin the season. “Happy for him. Happy for our team,” head coach Mike LaFleur said Sunday. “For it to get done sooner rather than later is good.”
In his first season with Arizona, Jacoby Brissett appeared in 14 games, making 12 starts. Although Brissett went 1-11 as the starter, the veteran signal-caller threw for 280.5 yards per game — 8th best in the NFL. “There’s a lot of factors that go into winning and losing football games,” coach LaFleur said. “It’s special teams, it’s coaching, it’s making the right decisions from a situational standpoint. So, there are so many factors. You try to take all the emotion out of it, and you just watch the player … I’ve always had respect for Jacoby from afar.”
The Cardinals head coach has been impressed with Brissett’s “rhythm and consistency” in the pocket and compares his style of play to former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. “Joe was always consistent, always just felt very steady, and that was part of Joe’s demeanor, and I see a lot of that same in Jacoby,” LaFleur said. “Similar characteristics in terms of when they’re back there and just that consistency with how they approach the game.”
With contract negotiations now in the rearview, Brissett will begin to take reps with the first-team offense Tuesday at training camp, and coach LaFleur is thrilled to have him back in the fold. “I’m excited to get working with him all the way up till September 13th.”
