The Las Vegas Raiders have signed safety Jamal Adams, the club announced Tuesday. Adams reunites with Raiders Head Coach Pete Carroll. The two were together for four years in Seattle. Las Vegas will take a gamble on the former three-time All-Pro, hoping Carroll and his coaching staff can help revitalize his career.
Background
Jamal Adams was the 6th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has recorded 366 solo tackles, 50 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and seven forced fumbles in eight NFL seasons. Adams established himself as one of the premier safeties in the league as a member of the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. Within four seasons, he was named to the Pro Bowl three times and earned All-Pro honors three years in a row.
Injuries have plagued his career. Adams has only appeared in 27 games since 2021. However, Jamal Adams recently posted himself working out on his social media and stated, “Best Shape of my life. Don’t be a fool.” The 29-year-old is in excellent shape and the healthiest he’s been in years, per NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
Legion of Boom 2.0
The Raiders have overhauled their defensive secondary this offseason.
They have added defensive backs Jeremy Chinn, Lonnie Johnson Jr, and Eric Stokes via free agency. The club re-signed safety Isaiah Pola-Moa, as well as cornerbacks Sam Webb and Darnay Holmes. In addition, Las Vegas drafted CB Darien Porter, 68th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
On July 22nd, Raiders Head Coach Pete Carroll addressed the media and expressed his excitement about the Raiders’ defensive back group.
“I’m fired up about the back end. We’re really athletic. We’re really fast, and we’re big. It’s an impressive-looking group. I can’t remember ever having a group that looks more impressive than this group. My guys will be pissed at me that I said that up north (Seattle). But, it’s the truth.”
