The New England Patriots addressed a major need in free agency by signing wide receiver Romeo Doubs to a four-year deal worth roughly $70 million. The move comes shortly after the Patriots released veteran receiver Stefon Diggs, leaving a massive hole at the top of the depth chart and creating an opportunity for Doubs to step into a much larger offensive role.
Doubs spent the first four seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. During his time in Green Bay, he developed into a reliable contributor within a crowded receiving corps, finishing the 2025 season with 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs. Doubs also showed strong chemistry with quarterback Jordan Love and consistently operated as a dependable red-zone target.
Now in New England, Doubs joins a receiving group that lacks a clear, established No. 1 option. The Patriots currently return receivers DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, but none of those players have demonstrated the ability to command high target volume at the NFL level. Because of that, Doubs immediately projects as the Patriots’ top wide receiver entering the 2026 season.
The signing also likely signals a shift in the Patriots’ offseason plans. Prior to landing Doubs, New England had been heavily linked to potential trade talks for star wide receiver A.J. Brown. With Doubs now under contract and receiving significant financial investment, a blockbuster trade for another high-end receiver appears less likely.
Romeo Doubs Fantasy Football Impact
From a fantasy football perspective, the move to New England significantly boosts Romeo Doubs’ potential value. In Green Bay, Doubs operated within a crowded receiver rotation that often limited his weekly volume. Despite that, he still managed to produce solid numbers and remained one of the Packers’ most trusted red-zone options.
In New England, Doubs enters a situation where he could realistically lead the team in targets. With Stefon Diggs gone and no proven WR1 on the roster, Doubs has a clear path to becoming Drake Maye’s primary receiving option. Maye has shown the ability to push the ball downfield, and Doubs’ ability to win on intermediate and vertical routes should fit well within that style of offense.
However, Doubs’ fantasy ceiling will ultimately depend on whether the Patriots make additional moves at wide receiver. If New England adds another high-end target through the draft or via trade, Doubs could slide into a secondary role. For now, though, the opportunity is clear. As the highest-paid receiver on the roster and one of the most experienced pass catchers on the team, Doubs currently projects as a WR3 in PPR formats with the potential to outperform that ranking if he becomes the focal point of the Patriots’ passing attack.
