With Penix’s timeline uncertain, the Falcons turned to Tagovailoa as a veteran option who could compete for the starting job or potentially begin the season as the starter while Penix continues to recover.
Tagovailoa, 28, spent the first six seasons of his career with Miami after being drafted fifth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama. His tenure with the Dolphins included both high-level production and frustrating inconsistencies. His best season came in 2023 when he led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards while throwing 29 touchdowns and earning a Pro Bowl selection. The Falcons also provide a more stable environment offensively than what he experienced during Miami’s recent rebuild. The biggest factor for fantasy managers will be the uncertainty surrounding Atlanta’s quarterback situation.
