Matt Fitzpatrick’s dramatic birdie on the first playoff hole made it two weeks in a row for me picking the winner from my Betting Guide.
Fitzpatrick silenced the raucous RBC Heritage crowd to defeat world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and won for the second time this season on the PGA Tour.
This mark my fourth win of the season, but this week would be an amazing feat for three in a row.
,The Tour heads to New Orleans for the Zurich Classic at TPC Louisiana. Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin return this year to defend their team-format victory.
Let’s go into this week’s plays!
Betting Guide: Bets to Win
Ryan Gerard/Sudarshan Yellamaraju (+1700 on DraftKings)
Fitzpatrick teaming up with his brother, Alex, are the odd maker’s favorite to win, but the pairing of Gerard and Yellamaraju are heads and shoulders above the rest on my spreadsheet’s consistency scores this week.
Their only combined weakness may be their play around the green, but Yellamaraju aggressive scoring style feeds off Gerard consistent grind during the four-ball format on Thursday and Saturday of the event.
The duo is elite in shots gained: Approach which should feed well into the alternate shot format on Friday and Sunday.
With a balanced stat sheet, this outright bet is the frontrunner for my three in a row.
John Keefer/Michael Brennan (+2200 on DraftKings)
This young pairing may not the steadiest of pairs to pick this week, but their odds to win are too good to pass up.
Keefer has struggled during the last month of play, and Brennan has not put four solid rounds to together in one tournament.
The team competition may be the thing they need.
The pair are two of the longest hitters on Tour, while Keefer’s elite driving efficiency and Brennan’s strong approach game could been the right combo for the week.
Haotong Li/Jordan Smith (+2400 on DraftKings)
Statistically, Li and Smith are built perfectly for the Zurich format – scoring.
They combine with great numbers in distance and accuracy off the tee and strong approach games which should give them plenty of chances at birdies this weekend.
Their green in regulations numbers are off the chart (Smith is 11th on Tour, while Li is 13th).
And both players are great scorers on par 5s. Smith averaged 4.51 on par 5 this season, while Li averages 4.54.
This duo could go low both days of the four-ball play.
Top 20 with ties
Thanks to the reduced number of teams with the two-player format the Top 20 odds are not worth the plays this week.
One and Done
Matt Fitzpatrick/Alex Fitzpatrick: I would rather play Matt in one of the signature or majors later this season, but the brothers should have the safest floor this week at the event. Both are entering the event after winning the last events they played in.
