3 Intriguing Early Season Revenge Games

The dropping of the NFL regular season schedule has many games highlighted and promoted as marquee games or Game of the Week. However, some people live for the revenge opportunities organically created in the landscape of the NFL. If revenge is what you are looking for in the first couple of weeks of the football season, then we have what you are looking for in each of the first three weeks. These games discussed are all games that, on the surface,e may not be the best game of the week or even the tenth-best game of the week, but each one of these matchups will possess some revenge factor.

PIT @ NYJ WEEK 1

This Week 1 matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets is loaded with undertones, from Justin Fields hosting a team where he was again disrespected, to the possibility of the legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers getting revenge with a new franchise for the third time in his illustrious career. This game has the makings to bring the revenge headlines, even seeing Mason Rudolph, and if he can once and for all take the reins of this legendary franchise. Defensive highlights may also be in abundance, as these two stout defenses may be able to take advantage of these very quarterbacks. This one has the makings to be the best game of the 1 pm slate on Sunday or even the surprise game of the week, with a double-dash of revenge.

CHI @ DET WEEK 2

Introducing the Ben Johnson bowl, I will say that many inside the Detroit Lions were unhappy with how the whole situation went down and that Johnson had gone to an inner division foe in the Chicago Bears. After adding the likes of Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III, this offense is primed for revenge. It is also intriguing to see how Jared Goff, Jameson Williams, and David Montgomery will fare in a new offense with Dan Campbell‘s fingerprints. The Lions have home-field advantage in this one, but I would not be surprised if the new leader of the Bears leads his men into Detroit and steals a close win, and tastes revenge against a former team in the Lions.

LAR @ PHI WEEK 3

The Divisional round between these two teams had me on the edge of my seat. Seeing Matthew Stafford sling the pill around in the snow may be one of the rare beautiful sights that can only be seen in a playoff atmosphere. Not to mention, Stafford and those Los Angeles Rams gave the Philadelphia Eagles the most competitive game they had all postseason, including the Super Bowl. The whole game it seemed like the Rams were just one play away, the addition of Davante Adams and the subtraction of Cooper Kupp may not be enough. However, the LA Rams defense is nothing to laugh at, and that extra offseason of experience may give the edge needed to overcome and seek revenge on the SB LIX champion Eagles.
