Commanders secure a much-needed victory over their NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Commanders finished the game with 27 unanswered points after trailing 10-0 late in the first quarter.
While the game wasn’t perfect or impressive, a win can cure a raging fanbase for now.
As November approaches, an important stretch is here as the Commanders are looking to build momentum throughout the season in a wild race for the NFC East.
The Commanders win over Eagles gave us 3 things to be encouraged by after the bye week.
Commanders win over Eagles showed us Jayden Daniels Poise and Leadership
Even after the bye week, the offense didn’t get off to the start they anticipated against a Vic Fangio-led unit. The team still committed the occasional pre-snap penalty that has haunted them so far this year; the passing game was off-timing, and the run game is still a work in progress.
It became the final straw for Jayden Daniels, who pulled the offense together on the sideline with a fiery speech that led to the Commanders’ win over Eagles.
Daniels also got off to a rough start with misfires and drops, but once he settled down, he finished 16/29 for 217 yards and 1 touchdown, plus 2 rushes for 23 yards.
The speech has been a talking point since the Commanders’ win over Eagles. Daniels has been under fire this year for injuries and late-game management decisions. The third-year quarterback is looking to prove the doubters wrong and has given the Commanders some light in a weak division.
Washington is looking to build momentum this season, and Jayden Daniels, for the franchise’s sake, is showing his talent and leadership as he navigates a rough start to the 2026 season.
The Progression of Daronte Jones Defense (with Wilks)
The Commanders’ win over Eagles also highlighted what Daronte Jones’ defense accomplished with additional help from Steve Wilks. Wilks, a former head coach and defensive coordinator, was added to help with game-day prep.
Since then, we have started to see the difference that another voice in the room makes.
Between two games and a bye week, Washington’s defense has seen a significant jump in numbers compared with the first couple of weeks.
Even with injuries at interior defensive line, Washington held the Eagles to 3.2 yards per carry all night while adding 5 sacks and two turnovers.
Since Week 6, they have allowed only 3 points in the entire second half of games, a huge improvement after being deemed the team that allowed the most points in the second half of games.
K’Lavon Chaisson and Odafe Oweh have combined for 7.5 sacks so far this season. Sonny Styles and Frankie Luvu are flying all over the field, and the return of Trey Amos and Nick Cross has helped the secondary communicate effectively.
Although it was a banged-up Eagles offense, it was a good stepping stone for the Jones unit, as it led to the Commanders’ win over Eagles.
A Terry-less Offense was fine with Commanders win over Eagles.
Sunday night also highlighted the first game without Terry McLaurin, as he ended up on injured reserve after tearing his patellar tendon against the 49ers. The seasoned stalwart has been the main guy since entering 2019. But the Commanders’ win over Eagles showed us a glimpse of what to expect without Terry McLaurin in the picture.
Jayden Daniels still moved the ball effectively against the Eagles’ defense with a mix of young and old. The Combination of Stefon Diggs, Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, and Chig Okonkwo still did damage.
In this offense, with David Blough and Jayden Daniels’ style, they can get the ball into the playmakers’ hands and let them make plays.
The most impressive has been Burks, who has battled injuries since being drafted, is making the most of his opportunity, and is building a rapport with Daniels.
Antonio Williams is also someone that the coaching staff is begging to get more involved in this offense. Diggs will step into the WR1 role and keep the group steady.
With the trade deadline, however, I would not be shocked to see a move at wide receiver.
I believe as long as Daniels is spreading the wealth, Washington will be fine.
A Win that can change the Narrative
The Washington Commanders needed a statement victory, and they delivered against one of their biggest NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. From Jayden Daniels’ leadership and composure to a defense that stepped up when it mattered most, Washington showed the resilience, energy, and determination that fans have been waiting to see.
The Commanders gave fans three reasons to celebrate Sunday night. Now the question becomes whether this performance was a turning point or just one bright spot in a challenging 2026 season.
