What Happened with Shedeur Sanders? Dynasty Stock, and More…

After Day 1

Shedeur Sanders fell to the second round after night one of the 2025 NFL Draft. This is a surprising move because for over a year, there was a lot of thought of him going in the top ten overall picks in this year’s draft. The question is, why? Well, the NFL told us what they think about Colorado, that team that was so heavily publicized over the last two seasons. Travis Hunter? Stud – 2nd overall pick in the draft. Shedeur Sanders? Not a first-round guy – No matter how much we need a quarterback, we are not taking him. Sanders was left empty in his ‘Night Club’ looking draft room, but he was cool, calm, and collected. Hopefully, he felt how he looked.

The most surprising thing was not that he wasn’t taken in the first round, but more that Jaxson Dart was taken in the first round and Sanders was left without a destination in the first night of the draft. There was a thought that they would go together over the last few weeks leading up to the draft. So, if one went in the first, so would the other and visa versa.

Recent QB Frenzy

The other surprising aspect to Sanders’ non-pick in last night’s first round was that the past few years’ teams have been very aggressive in taking quarterbacks early. Trading up and getting their guy has proved to be a relatively effective strategy in recent years. The likes of Bo Nix getting drafted, getting drafted as the 12th overall player, but the SIXTH quarterback of the draft.

We have heard that Cam Ward, the perceived ‘best quarterback’ in this year’s draft, would potentially be the 5th, 6th, or 7th quarterback in last year’s draft. It is well documented that a lack of talent in this year’s draft, but still surprising that only two quarterbacks were drafted after the recent aggressive behavior for quarterbacks in recent years.

After Night 2

Well, another night of the draft came and went, and the only player anyone can talk about is on that did not go… Shedeur Sanders did not get selected after the second night of the draft. This is unprecedented as we look at his NFL draft stock plummeting. Not only that, but fantasy value may as well be non-existent.

We saw quite a few quarterbacks go ahead of him… again. The Saints were first on night two to draft a quarterback with Tyler Shough heading to New Orleans, then Dillon Gabriel to the Browns, and then Jalen Milroe to the Seahawks. A lot is going on within the narrative of Shedeur Sanders. Race and character are being brought into the mix, but I am not going to be getting into any of that. Hopefully, this is just a football decision. Deion is a man of class, character, and confidence, and we can only assume he raised his children that way.

This is shocking, no one thought that Shedeur would be a Day 3 pick or heck even undrafted, but this is the world that we are living in, and we have to stay alert as to what is happening. The distaste for the tape of Shedeur Sanders is a lot higher than we all thought in NFL circles. Colorado haters are not the only ones who were not in love with his play. Hopefully, he gets a shot on day three…

Day 3: The… Browns?

With the 6th pick of the 5th round (144 overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Shedeur Sanders, Colorado.

It has finally happened, after clips of Jackson St., Shedeur at Colorado, Deion talking about him, draft day party moments, and livestreams with Shiloh, the Cleveland Browns took Sanders. While this was well predicted, I too did. No one thought it would come in the 5th round on day three of the draft. ESPECIALLY after the Browns selected Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon in the third round.

The Browns now have five quarterbacks that you have heard of and no, none of them are named Dorian Thompson-Robinson… Joe FlaccoKenny PickettDillon GabrielDeshaun Watson (hurt and bad), and then Shedeur Sanders. FIVE QUARTERBACKS that could potentially make their roster. This puts Sanders in a place where he could be cut before the season even starts because of his fifth-round draft status. It would not hurt the Browns one bit.

It really is shocking that he was selected by the Browns here after they have already taken a QB. Sean Payton, Head Coach of the Denver Broncos and quarterback guru, essentially stated that Sanders will be a player in the NFL, and to all the teams that passed on him, that it could be a mistake. It is a bit hypocritical because every team passed on him FOUR times and his own team did, but I digress. Shedeur Sanders may have a new team before week four of next season. I think that is the biggest headline here.

I do think Shedeur Sanders should be given a legitimate shot to develop in the league. I am no GM, not even close, but from everything we have seen, he has some sort of talent that can be useful to an NFL Franchise. I mean, Tim Boyle starts a handful of games a season for various teams… Yep, Tim. Boyle… Look at his College and NFL Stats and tell me that Shedeur Sanders should not get the shot that Tim Boyle has gotten.

At this point, I do not think anyone knows what to make of it. The Browns do not have a high investment and have five more quarterbacks to add to some Cleveland fans’ 30+ Jersey Collection since 2000. I hope to see him get a shot at being successful, but who knows what will happen, especially in such a tough division like the AFC North. The narrative on him just became different. It is no longer, “How will he be as an NFL quarterback?” It is now, “Will he even get a shot at a roster come Kickoff in Week 1?”

Dynasty Outlook

Sanders has been a mainstay in early-first-round dynasty rookie drafts for the last year. To see him fall to the fifth round of the NFL draft makes me think that he may go undrafted or be a dart throw at the end of your standard 3-round dynasty rookie drafts. Yes, I know his value has been falling for months now in dynasty fantasy football, but this gets me to a whole different level. His chance for success is diminished by a lack of opportunity. Like I said, the NFL showed that they do not believe in him as an elite prospect and talent. The character is elite, we know that, but he may not be as good as we all thought.
