Welcome to NFL Week 17 Must Sit! This is the last one of the year, so let’s make it count! I hope all of you made your fantasy championships and have a chance to triumph in week 17 of 2025. This is for all of the marbles, so let’s take a look at the players that will potentially ruin that chance at glory.
Michael Wilson
Michael Wilson has been a dominant fantasy figure down the stretch, finishing as the #1 wide receiver in two separate weeks (Weeks 11 and 14). This has all been with Marvin Harrison Jr. out with an injury. We saw a downturn in usage from Wilson this week, with Harrison in the lineup on a limited snap count. While he did score over 13 fantasy points, which is a respectable output, he only had two catches for 52 yards and did eventually get that ever-important touchdown. If not, he would have been well under 10 fantasy points, and that is not good enough this time of year.
While Wilson will be a much more fantasy-relevant player than before the breakout, I worry the Arizona Cardinals do not know how to use both receivers within the lineup. The matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals is favorable, but I would think twice before auto starting Wilson in my championship.
Tony Pollard
Tony Pollard saved his season a little too late. His weeks six through thirteen were just about as terrible as it gets, but in all had it far enough to see this week with Tony Pollard, he may be a reason you had a late-season push. Putting up 28.1, 18.2, and 10.2 fantasy points, respectively. This is a big production from a player that you wouldn’t expect this late in the year to do some damage. However, this late-season resurgence may be all that you will get from him.
They play the not-so-good, but competitive lately, team in the New Orleans Saints, and his backfield-mate Tyjae Spears has been splitting the work with him, just under a 50/50 split in favor of Pollard. He has been getting the bulk of the passing work. I am not saying to start Spears after his 21.5 blowup against Kansas City, but I would be wary of letting my 2025 season life hang in the balance of the Tennessee backfield.
Deebo Samuel
Deebo Samuel has been a disappointment down the stretch in a disappointing Washington Commanders 2025 season. Deebo looked great to start the year, inking four top-18 WR finishes in the first five weeks of the year. Since then, he has had one of those finishes. The Jayden Daniels connection was strong with Samuel and even a couple of weeks with Marcus Mariota, but the Commanders could not drive consistent offense all season. I would be nervous at the prospect of gaining anything from starting Deebo Samuel in my week 17 fantasy matchup for glory.
Michael Pittman Jr.
Michael Pittman Jr. is probably the biggest reason you are here with his early-season success this season. Unfortunately for Pittman managers, his production has sort of fallen off with the success of his team, the Indianapolis Colts. Pittman has had two solid weeks since week 10 and has largely been unreliable down the stretch this season. The Indianapolis Colts are playing against the red-hot Jacksonville Jaguars, whom nobody believes in. Phillip Rivers looked much better in his Monday Night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, but we did not see his rapport with Michael Pittman Jr. shine through.
Rico Dowdle
Rico Dowdle has created a nice working role for himself in the Carolina Panthers offense this season. After the Chuba Hubbard breakout and consequential extension in Carolina last season, I thought he would be nothing more than a nice backup, but he has had a fantasy viable score in all but three games this season. He is currently the RB15 overall. The Carolina Panthers are playing the Seattle Seahawks this weekend, and that is not a match-up that I would like to be in. Sit, Dowdle, this week.
