The Los Angeles Chargers continue to build their offensive line depth in free agency with the additions of Cole Strange, Trey Pipkins, and Trevor Penning.
New Building Blocks for the Chargers
Cole Strange signed a 2-year, $13 million deal on Tuesday. Strange was previously with the Miami Dolphins and will be reunited with his former head coach, Mike McDaniel. He started 14 games for the Dolphins last year at right guard, and he’s currently poised to get the starting position going into next year for the Chargers.
Trey Pipkins is re-signing with the Los Angeles Chargers for a 2 year, $10 million contract, which could end up being $12 million with incentives. He provided some key value as a depth piece as a tackle last year when Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater went down with injuries. Going into his eighth year with the Chargers, he will continue to bolster this line in the hopes of providing the protection Justin Herbert needs.
Trevor Penning will sign a one-year deal with the Chargers worth $4.5 million. The Chargers traded for Penning at the trade deadline last year in hopes of building on the pieces they already had. He will now be back in the fold as a rotational piece for the Bolts. While he was primarily playing guard for the Chargers, he was also used in packages as an extra lineman to help spring runs for Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal.
As it currently stands, this is who the Chargers’ offensive line consists of going into today: Joe Alt, Rashawn Slater, Tyler Biadasz, Trevor Penning, Trey Pipkins, Cole Strange, Ben Cleveland, Branson Taylor, and Josh Kaltenberger. The last three are on futures contracts with the Chargers.
