Top 3 MLB Moments From Rivalry Weekend

Rivalry weekend provided many highlights for MLB fans. There were plenty of games that provided exciting outcomes and moments that will be talked about for the rest of the season. However, with so much action, plus the rush of everyday life, it’s easy to miss some of these moments. Now, obviously, we can’t rank everything that happened in the MLB this weekend. Here are the top three moments that occurred in the MLB this past weekend.

1. Mets Comeback Against the Yankees

Sunday was the rubber game of the Subway Series. With both the New York Mets and New York Yankees taking games this series, this game would decide who takes round one of the Subway Series. For the first eight innings, it looked like the Yankees would take this game easily. They were up 6-3 and had the Mets down to their final out. But in this inning, the Mets put a couple of runners on and got the tying run to the plate in Tyrone Taylor. On the first pitch, Taylor hit a moonshot into left field to tie the game at six.

In the 10th inning, Devin Williams was able to shut down his former club, setting up the Mets for a walk-off victory. With a runner on first and third and one out, Carson Benge hit a comebacker that caused two Yankees infielders to run into each other, allowing Marcus Semien to score the game-winning run. This marked the first time since 2024 that the Mets won a game when trailing after the eighth inning. The Mets have now won five of their last six games, and no longer have the worst record in the MLB. This could be the win that turns their season around and gets them back into contention.

2. White Sox Walk Off Cubs to Take Series

Going into this series, this was a major test for the Chicago White Sox. With them off to their best start in years, many were wondering how real this start is. Is this a team that is just off to a hot start and will come back down to Earth as the schedule gets harder? Or is this a good team that can make some noise in a weak American League? Their series against the Chicago Cubs was the first real test. They have one of the best records in the MLB and are at the top of the NL Central. Beating them would send a message to the rest of the league that you’re a true contender.

After splitting the first two games, Sunday provided an exciting back-and-forth affair. Whenever one team scores, the other team immediately answers. The White Sox were able to 7-4 lead into the ninth, until Michael Conforto hit a game-tying three-run blast to send the game to extra innings. In the tenth, the Cubs took an 8-7 lead. But in the bottom of the inning, Edgar Quero put a ball into the left field seats to clinch a 9-7 victory and the series. Giving the White Sox their signature victory of 2026.

3. Cardinals Get New Good Luck Charm

One of the things that makes baseball so special is all the superstitions it has. Throughout MLB history, teams have rallied around many different things. Whether it’s the Rally Monkey, Grimace, or the Homer Hanky, many different things have become rally points for teams. We got our newest edition to this list during the series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals. On Friday, the Stephen F. Austin club baseball team was in attendance and caught national attention for taking their shirts off and creating a rowdy environment. This helped propel the Cardinals to a 5-4 win in 11 innings.

This also caught the attention of Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol. The first thing he mentioned during his post-game press conference was them and talked about how awesome it was. He liked it so much that he tweeted out he’d buy tickets for anyone who wants to sit where the Stephen F. Austin team sat and bring the same injury. Thus creating the “Tarps Off” section. This worked again as the Cardinals won Saturday 4-2, with the team in attendance. To make things better, Marmol invited the club team to the clubhouse after the game.
