Three Arizona Cardinals Who Stood Out in Loss to the San Francisco 49ers

The Arizona Cardinals held a 2-point lead on the road with 1:46 remaining. However, they were unable to pull out the victory.

The San Francisco 49ers’ offense executed a 10-play, 63-yard drive in clutch time, giving their kicker Eddy PiƱeiro an opportunity to win the game with his right leg. PiƱeiro didn’t miss. He drilled a 35-yard field goal as time expired.

Final score 16-15.

Despite the loss, here are three Arizona Cardinals who flashed in Week 3.

Rocketship

Arizona Cardinals team captain Mack Wilson Sr. was all over the field Sunday afternoon. The veteran linebacker recorded 12 combined tackles, two pass defensed, and one tackle for loss.

With a score tied 6-6 in the fourth quarter, Mack Wilson Sr. made the play of the game. He put a massive hit on star running back Christian McCaffrey in the flat, forcing an incompletion on 4th and goal.

Mack Wilson Sr. is off to a fantastic start. Through three games, he has played 100% of the snaps on defense and currently leads the Arizona Cardinals with 28 tackles.

Ageless Wonder

Calais Campbell has played in the National Football League since 2008. So far, the 39-year-old defensive lineman has had a Hall of Fame career, but he is not finished yet.

Against the San Francisco 49ers, Calais Campbell recorded a team-high five pressures. The performance earned him an elite 90.4 PFF pass rush grade.

Late in the 4th quarter, Calais Campbell beat 49ers right guard Dominick Puni immediately off the snap with a swim move. To prevent a sack, Puni held onto Campbell’s beltline, which drew a flag from the officials. Since the foul occurred in the end zone, the play resulted in a safety.

Cardinals General Manager Monti Ossenfort made a wise decision to bring back Calais Campbell this offseason. He has been one of the best defenders on the Cardinals’ roster this season.

Best TE in the NFL?

The Arizona Cardinals’ offense runs through Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride. He led the team with eight targets in Week 3. McBride hauled in five receptions for 43 receiving yards and one touchdown.

The tight end is clearly Kyler Murray’s go-to target. After three games, McBride leads the team with 24 targets. The next closest pass catcher is Marvin Harrison Jr, with 17 targets. Trey McBride will continue to be the focal point of the Cardinals’ offense the rest of the season.
