Buechele Shines In Bills Win

The visiting Buffalo Bills defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Saturday night after a hot start on offense that saw Shane Buechele passing the ball to KJ Hamler and Tyrell Shavers. Buechele certainly made a case to at least make the practice squad over veteran Mike White after playing the entirety of Saturday’s matchup and finishing an impressive 25/30, 278 yards, a TD to Shavers, who also had a career-defining game.

Tyrell Shavers Sends A Message

Tyrell Shavers’ one-handed TD catch, seen below, is one of the many reasons that Head Coach Sean McDermott needs to keep Shavers on the roster. Shavers has now made highlights in back-to-back weeks, showcasing his red zone ability, catch in traffic, and ability to stretch the field. With the Bills’ WR6 spot in question throughout camp, it seems he is now likely to obtain that spot. Shavers finishes the preseason with 6 receptions, 123 yards, and a TD in a limited capacity.

Bills Defense Rebounds

The Buffalo defense was ready to put last week’s catastrophe behind them as they got to the QB twice with the help of veteran A.J. Epenesa, rookie Deone Walker, and Nelson Ceaser. The Bills’ defense also forced a fumble thanks to CB Zy Alexander punching the Ball out of Buccaneers TE Devin Culp, and it was recovered by LB Jimmy Ciarlo. Plenty of guys are showcasing their skills in a last-ditch effort to at least make the Bills’ practice squad.

Quiet Day From Sean Tucker

I, like many others, was hoping to see more out of Buccaneers RB Sean Tucker as he finished the day with 3 carries and a reception totaling just 3 yards. He’s someone who had electrifying plays last season in a very limited role, like Bills RB Ray Davis. Bucs fans should keep an eye on the young rusher as he continues to try and carve out a larger role in the Bucs offense.

Buccaneers Shilo Sanders Ejected

During Saturday’s matchups, things got chippy between Bills TE and apparent backup punter, Zach Davidson. Davidson was blocking Shilo Sanders throughout a play and continued to do so after it ended. Sanders retaliated and threw a punch at Davidson, causing him to be ejected. Neither player is locked to make their respective teams’ rosters, and it’ll be interesting to see if this mistake proves costly for Sanders as the August 27th cut day approaches.

Update: As of writing, Bills CB Zy Alexander and EDGE Nelson Ceaser have been released in the first batch of cuts from Buffalo Sunday afternoon. Tampa Bay also released Shilo Sanders Sunday, following his on field altercation. It is unknown if that was the sole reason he was cut but he was already on the bubble of making the roster prior.

Cut Day

Be on the lookout later this week as I discuss Buffalo’s 53-man roster and what notable players the Bills can look at that were released from other teams around the league. There are always a few surprise cuts, and with Bills GM Brandon Beane always looking to improve the roster, it could mean a seasoned veteran or two can still join Buffalo’s roster heading into a week 1 heavyweight battle between the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at 8:20 pm EST.
