We are finally here! Week 1 of the NFL season, and my intro for my stash can plays and another streaming DST will be short.
Here is an early look at three players who are expected to see limited playing time during the opening weekend that you need to stash now. And I’m going to add another DST streamer after giving you some plays earlier in the preseason.
Stash Can
Quarterback
Jaxson Dart, NY Giants
Russell Wilson has the QB1 spot for now for the Giants, but it was Dart who played well the best in the preseason.
Dart was 32 of 47 passing for 372 yards with three TDs with no turnovers and only two sacks. And he added 52 yards rushing and a TD.
He is the Giants’ future at QB, but head coach Brian Daboll is taking the slow approach with his first-round pick.
Running back
Kaleb Johnson, Pittsburgh
Well, the Johnson hype has finally calmed down and he’s No. 2 on the Steelers depth chart.
Some were saying that he was going to be a younger version of Najee Harris, and my thoughts were Najee wasn’t good the last two seasons so why do the Steelers want a younger version.
Pittsburgh showed its hand late last season as Jaylen Warren’s superior snap counts proved the former first-round pick Harris was on his way out. And today they signed Warren to a two-year extension for $17.5 million.
However, Johnson would be the back to roster if Warren were to sustain an injury as Kenneth Gainwell is more suited for a third-down role.
Johnson truthers have some hope and he’s more of a stash to start the season.
Wide Receiver
Luther Burden III, Chicago
Burden III was the able to show his big play abilities late in the preseason for the Bears, but a hamstring injury that lingered from OTA practices in May limited his play.
He was expected to push for a starting job in the slot with Keenan Allen not re-signed in the offseason, but the injury continued to linger into training camp.
Burden III was able to record 5 receptions for 78 yards (15.6 per catch) but most of this damage was done with the offensive back-ups in preseason games.
He’s the perfect stash right now as he continues to work back into NFL shape to contribute later in the season.
DST Streamer
Kansas City
The Chiefs do not have the easiest schedule for a defense to start the season, but it was the defense that kept them in games in 2024. So why will it change this season?
Kansas City limited opponents to 20 points or less in 12 of their 17 regular season games and it retained a large of portion of the unit for the 2025 season.
Defensive lineman Chris Jones continues to be menace on opposing QBs as he was ranked 12th in the NFL’s Top 100 of 2024.
Cornerback Trent McDuffie stepped up in the secondary last season and was ranked third among CBs with a PFF grade of 83.1.
Add in George Karlaftis, who led the Chiefs with 8 sacks last season, the unit has three stars to build around for the 2025 season.
