Jets Crash as Bills Set Tone in AFC East

What looked to be a great offensive battle after week 1, the New York Jets just could not keep up with the explosive Buffalo Bills. Coming off a solid performance against his former team, Justin Fields looked to continue that against the division rival Bills. Fields ended the day 3/11 and only 29 yards before exiting Sunday’s game with a concussion in the 4th quarter.

Takeaways

Buffalo’s defense certainly rebounded this week as I expected, sacking Justin Fields 4 times and completely shutting down the run game. After watching the Baltimore Ravens carve up the Buffalo defense, Sean McDermott had the defense in the film room all week to get right after allowing Derrick Henry to run all over them in week 1, and it paid off. Many fans expected Breece Hall to have another dominant performance following his week 1 outing versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Hall ended the day with 10 carries and only 29 yards. Joey Bosa specifically had a great performance as he continues to be worth every penny. Bosa finished the day with a sack and a forced fumble.

My Player of The Game

Meanwhile, it was the Bills’ run game that dominated as James Cook set the tone throughout the game with multiple runs that kept the Bills on the field and extended drives. Finishing with 132 yards on 21 carries and 2 TDs, Cook continues to prove his recent four-year $48 million contract extension was worth it. I fully expect Cook to have another explosive night against the Miami Dolphins this Thursday.

Next Man Up

It was recently announced that Ed Oliver would miss a few weeks after suffering from an ankle injury. His presence was surely missed, but this allowed the rookies, TJ Sanders and Deone Walker, to get some quality reps against a division rival. Sanders finished with 1 tackle, while Walker finished with 2 on the day. Hopefully, Oliver can recover quickly, as his absence is devastating for the Bills.

Blunt Opinions

I’m going to randomize 3 numbers on Google, match them to the jersey number on the current 53-man roster, and tell you my blunt opinion on their week 2 performance.

  • #50 EDGE Greg Rousseau: He had a relatively quiet night as he only registered half a sack. An underwhelming performance considering how dominant Joey Bosa was on the opposite side. Rousseau looks to bounce back on a short week as the Bills take on the Dolphins this Thursday night.
  • #62 OL Sedrick Van Pran-Granger: Not much to say regarding Pran-Granger as our offensive line continues to be one of the healthiest units in the NFL over the past few seasons. But kudos to him for being ready!
  • #11 QB Mitchell Trubisky: Most weeks I’d have nothing to say as Josh Allen is one of the healthiest QBs in the league however midway through the game Allen suffered a nose injury where he was seen bleeding profusely, while on the sideline, Trubisky completed 1 of 2 throws where he connected with Joshua Palmer on a 32 yard play on 3rd down to keep the drive alive before Allen re-entered the game. Overall, good performance from the backup QB.
