The New York Jets’ offensive line may be building something similar to what they had at Aaron Glenn‘s previous home in the Detroit Lions. It has been clear that Glenn is not messing around and needs his line to support his offense in New York.
By taking back-to-back offensive tackles in the last two rounds, each of them has a specific skill at which they excel. This offense has the makings of a top 10 in the NFL, and at its peak, it may even be compared with the likes of the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles by the end of the season. This Jets team hinders if the O-line can get it working as they have all the pieces they need at skill positions, the NYJ just need the big guys up front to throw some weight around and they could be a dark horse in the 2025 NFL race.
Ola Fashanu LT
Ola Fashanu was the eleventh selection in the 2024 draft and was slated to ride the bench for the greater portion of his first season. When Tyron Smith went down with an injury, the Jets had no other choice but to give the rookie from Penn State his first action in the NFL.
Fashanu was renowned for his pass protection, only giving up one sack in 5 starts, and missed the final two games due to injury. Ability is there for Fashanu; it all comes down to his health and availability. As everyone knows, you cannot play well if you are not on the field. Fashanu aligns very well with the scheme that HC Glenn is expected to run with New York and should prove to be a long-term solution at the Left Tackle position for the NYJ.
John Simpson LG
John Simpson is coming off of a 2024 campaign that has significantly turned around his career, as he was just waived by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and is now a respected starter after last season’s performance. In 2024, Simpson had a PFF run-blocking score of 83.9 and a pressure rate of just 3.4%. Both of these numbers are nothing to laugh at and rank highly in both categories.
Although Simpson has had tough times in his career, it seems as though he has made the New York Jets’ Left Guard a nice place to call home for the foreseeable future. The middle of the Offensive line will be the anchor of the Jets, and Simpson is an integral part of how the Jets perform as an offense this season.
Joe Tippmann C
Joe Tippmann enters the 2025 season as the familiar face on the Jets O-line, also his production in 2024 was nothing to laugh at and will be the key to the middle of this O-line. In logging over 1000 snaps in 2024 he was only flagged four times, and also only allowed 5 sacks on his then QB Aaron Rodgers.
Although a marked increase was seen by Tippmann in 2024, veteran center Josh Meyers was brought in for competition. This presence of competition is nothing new in an Aaron Glenn New York Jets team, as he experienced competition many times in his career as a player, scout, and coach.
Alijah Vera-Tucker RG
Alijah Vera-Tucker is looking to finally be healthy again after the last two seasons have been shortened due to injury. The Jets have taken advantage of opportunities to upgrade their line around AVT. If Vera-Tucker can get back to the health and form he was before his injuries, then this O-line is going to be pushing people around with ease. In the short amount of time, he did play in 2024 his pass protection left a lot to be desired as he allowed 19 pressures in 263 pass-blocking attempts. I do believe, AVT and his ability to stay healthy may be the lynchpin for the New York Jets offensive line this coming 2025 season.
Armand Membou RT
Armand Membou comes into the Jets with amazing athleticism and high pedigree as he was the seventh overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft. Membou has great ability to lead block from the outside tackle position, his speed and power mixture can also stalemate the pass rush. Membou was a STUD at Missouri where he only allowed three sacks his entire college career and eleven penalties over 1045 snaps. His Relative Athletic Score or RAS was 9.90 which is among the highest seen for an offensive lineman in recent history. Membou, although, young and raw, can be the best offensive lineman on this team for many years to come.
With the O-line looking a bit different in 2025 the Jets hope to cement themselves as a powerhouse in the AFC. Having a good offensive line is pivotal in the NFL, with the growing emphasis on athletic pass rushers. The two young tackles on the Jets should provide solid anchors on the offense for years to come. Is Aaron Glenn building a Detroit Lions look-alike in the AFC to bully some of the finesse teams around the league, this seems like a very Aaron Glenn thing to do. I believe that the Jets will be an improved O-line and may even be able to sneak into the top 10 as a group.
