Kirk Cousins is heading to Las Vegas. The veteran signal-caller has agreed to a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, per multiple reports.
With the Raiders, Kirk reunites with head coach Klint Kubiak, who served as his quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings from 2019 to 2021.
Cousins Brings Experience to the Raiders
Cousins, 37, has appeared in 174 games, making 167 starts. Across his 14 NFL seasons, Cousins has thrown for 44,700 yards and 298 touchdowns. He currently ranks 19th all-time in career passing yards and 15th all-time in passing touchdowns. Kirk Cousins is just three touchdowns shy of surpassing Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, who finished his career with 300 passing touchdowns.
When asked at the combine, General Manager John Spytek said he would prefer not to rush a young quarterback onto the field. “I think you want to limit the amount of pressure you have on that guy from the start. Now, if you have a young quarterback, I’m not necessarily in favor of running him out there right away,” Spytek said. “So [it’s important to have] another quality player that can play the quarterback position.”
Kirk Cousins fits the bill. The four-time Pro Bowler will serve as a veteran presence and potential mentor to rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who is widely expected to be selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
