NFL Week 9 Must Sit: Avoid All Vikings!, Panthers are Mush, and Drake Maye has a New Favorite Target

Welcome to the NFL Week 9 Must Sit article. In this article, you will have a chance to see the five players that I think are must-sits in week 9. There are four bye weeks this week, so you may be a little thin at your top with the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, especially, on bye. Check it out now, below.

Must Sit #1

Rico Dowdle/Chuba Hubbard (Panthers’ Backfield)

For the second week in a row, the Carolina Panthers‘ backfield ends up on my fantasy NFL Myst Sit list. The Rico Dowdle experience was about as much fun as you can have for two weeks. The stoppage of fun comes because of Chuba Hubbard’s presence back in the lineup. Dowdle has seen a precipitous drop in touches since his weeks five and six outbursts. His touches went from an average of 26.5 in the two big showings to 17 and then 8. The snap share has followed as well. Hubbard has also seen a decline. Now, his stats compared to what they were before the injury are down, but it is not a precipitous drop-off like Dowdle’s. I expect Hubbard to take back this backfield a little bit more down the stretch, but neither is startable until further notice.

Must Sit #2

Tyjae Spears

Tyjae Spears‘ name, the last three years, has been one of eternal optimism. Everyone has thought of him as this savior in the Tennessee backfield if he can stay healthy, but that most likely will not be his rose for the rest of the year. The Tennessee Titans need help and lots of it. Nothing will contribute to their success until they get that he, p, and they are a couple of years away from that. Tony Pollard’s snap share over the last few weeks has crept closer tothe  50% mark, and the total rushing attempts are averaging less than 1. No, he is still seeing decent receiving usage, which is Spears’ suspected role. With the uncertainty of Pollard’s role in the line-up, you have to sit Spears unless you are desperate. If Pollard gets traded, everything is on the table.

Must Sit #3

Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs has been ‘solid’. That is the best way I can describe him as a Patriots Wide Receiver. His success comes and goes, a nd it really is not based on the matchup either. He has had 3 games over 10 fantasy points, and his snap share has never been over 63%. For a former #1 on his 4th team, this is not a great sign. While I believe he can contribute in a spot start here and there, this is not a spot I would like to try. While the Atlanta Falcons have been a frustrating team this season, never knowing when their offense or defense is going to show up, I do believe their secondary is good enough to hold up this week. Like I said, you never know when Diggs is going to have his game, but Kayshon Boutte has been more consistent than Diggs this season, so I think I would rather take the upside shot with him.

Must Sit #4

J.J. McCarthy

J.J. McCarthy was very hyped going into the offseason. For good reason and some malpractice. McCarthy has the arm to get the job done, especially with the two stud wideouts he has in Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson. The only issue with him is that even in college, he was never asked to throw the ball all that much, and I worry that he is not ready for the moment. We saw Carson Wentz support each of these guys in fantasy, and I worry that there will be a large drop-off. In the first two weeks of the season, we saw about two good quarters of football from McCarthy. Unless he has completely turned it around while he was injured, I wouldn’t bet on him this week against the Lions.

Must Sit #5

Jordan Mason

Jordan Mason is one of those running backs who need every touch. He needs every touch to get the stat line that we want from him, and Aaron Jones just came back last week. They both played a similar number of snaps in weeks one and two, but Jones outsnapped him by a wide margin last week. The two backs only totaled 5.1 half-PPR Fantasy points, but that could have been game script. I suspect the script won’t be any better this week as they face the Detroit Lions coming off a bye. Sit Jordan Mason, this week.

Ranking All 5 Must Sits

  1.  J.J. McCarthy
  2.  Jordan mason
  3.  Tyjae Spears
  4.  Rico Dowdle/Chuba Hubbard
  5.  Stefon Diggs
