The NFL Draft is less than a week away. With that, Buffalo is in a unique situation; they need to address a few starting spots despite only having one pick in the first and second rounds.
The Bills may draft LB/WR in round one, but that still leaves CB3/4 with little to no depth, and LB if the Bills draft WR, and vice versa. Here are a few veterans on the open market who could make an impact while not breaking the bank in Buffalo.
Veterans to Target
CB Marshon Lattimore
Lattimore is on the backside of his productive career; the veteran CB will be 30 when the season starts, but he still plays at a high level and can contribute, especially in the role Buffalo needs. Like a few other veterans on this list, if he wishes to start, Buffalo isn’t the landing spot for him, but if he’s fine to be in a reduced role if it means he can ring chase, Lattimore would provide valuable depth to the Bills’ secondary.
A good WR that is surprisingly still on the market could command less than previously expected. Jauan Jennings is a solid receiver. Jennings had a career year in 2024, eclipsing 1k yards, but his 2025 campaign was underwhelming, only racking in 643 receiving yards with 9 touchdowns. The WR market appears to have dried up, and a combination of that plus Buffalo addressing a different position in the draft could lineup this match. Moore and Jennings on the outside with Shakir in the slot would be a drastic improvement over last year.
The only remaining free agent from Buffalo’s 2025 team that I would like to see come back is Shaq Thompson. He played extremely well last season and has more than earned a spot in the starting lineup. This move likely only happens if Buffalo doesn’t go LB early in the draft.
NT D.J. Reader
Reader will be 32 at the start of next season, but he remains a dominant force in the trenches. A return to Detroit is still likely, but if Buffalo is concerned about Deone Walker’s ability at NT during camp, they could look to bring in a veteran to not only make an immediate impact but also to mentor Walker at the position for his long-term development.
The tackle duo of Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown had been formidable vs premier edge rushers and remain one of the healthiest position groups on the Bills. Despite this, having a veteran backup in the event of an untimely injury is never a bad thing. Robinson would bring in years of experience with 114 starts to his name. Cam is likely to hold out for a starting role elsewhere, but if no team calls and he wants to ring chase, Buffalo could be an intriguing option for the veteran tackle.
Recap
Plenty of big names remain in free agency, and while it’s unlikely Buffalo adds more with their limited cap space, never say never, especially for guys like Shaq Thompson, as Brandon Beane over the years has proven that he does not shy away from bringing back former players.
Pick 26 will tell us a lot about the confidence Buffalo has in WR Keon Coleman, LB Dorian Williams, and DT Deone Walker.
