Josh Allen & Co.

Coming off an MVP season, Josh Allen heads into training camp with one last thing on his mind: bringing the Lombardi to Buffalo. With that in mind, Josh Allen started electrifying. Motivated, Allen threw not one, not two, not three, but four consecutive touchdown passes to start the day: two to TE Dalton Kincaid and another two to WR Keon Coleman. Allen hasn’t lost his stride and looks to dominate the 2025 NFL season.

James Cook’s Full Participation

Despite heading into a contract year, the disgruntled running back fully participated on the first day of camp and isn’t expected to hold out. This is great news for Bills fans who saw James Cook become a focal point in the offense last season after trading away Stefon Diggs in 2024. Contractually, the Bills and Cook remain in contract negotiations as we head into the preseason.

Dalton Kincaid Shines As Dawson Knox Sits

With Dawson Knox being out at the start of training camp, this allowed starting TE Dalton Kincaid to see an increase in reps. One of his two TDs was heavily contested by S Taylor Rapp. Kincaid, throughout the day, showcased his route running and pass-catching ability vs zone coverage. Kincaid, heading into year three had a dominant and promising rookie season while having somewhat of a sophomore slump. He looks to become a focal point in this Bills offense this season.

Keon Coleman Breakout Year?

I’ve covered this previously, and Keon Coleman was exemplary to open up camp with two TD catches. One of Coleman’s TDs was a very impressive toe drag and showcased strong abilities in the scramble drills. Keon Coleman is still a guy I fully believe is capable of having a breakout season, and if he keeps this focus and energy throughout camp, there’s no doubt he can become a premier WR in this league in due time.

Defense

A few notable things to take away from the defense are that CB Christian Benford was very consistent from the first snap to the last, not losing a step despite the various drills run. Rookie 1st round pick CB Maxwell Hairston showcased his athleticism on a diving pass breakup (seen below) where Josh Allen targeted WR KJ Hamler near the sideline. Rookie DT T.J. Sanders also displayed his skillset on the defensive line, disrupting a few plays.

Special Teams

K Tyler Bass has had his highs and his lows since arriving to Buffalo but the veteran Kicker came to camp ready to prove the doubters wrong, Bass went 5/5 on the day at various ranges. Bass just needs to be more consistent on Sunday when it matters most. WR/KR Leviska Shenault didn’t practice with an injury so we weren’t able to see him in any kick returns but the veteran should be just fine for the start of the regular season.

Injuries

The following players didn’t practice the first day of camp: TE Dawson Knox (hamstring), RT Spencer Brown (back), WR Laviska Shenault (lower leg strain), and C Sedrick Van Pran Granger (calf).

None of these injuries are expected to go into the season which is good news for HC Sean McDermott as RT Spencer Brown is a key piece on the Bills offensive line.
