Waiver Wire Stashes: Flournoy can fill void if Cowboys still have injuries in Week 6

Waive Wire Stashes Week 6

It can be tough writing the Waiver Wire Stashes a day later than most leagues have their waiver wire deadline, but let’s make the FAAB spending a little less of a guessing game.

I know a lot leagues run their waiver wire on Tuesday, but they need to catch up to the times of the modern era of the waiver wire. Good league commissioners will run their waiver wires on Thursday morning or multiple times until Sunday’s main slate of games, giving their league managers a chance to access the player pool with at least one day of practice.

Most of leagues I play in have a waiver wire limit for the week or run their waiver wires a few times a week. And this can easily be setup in most league formats no matter the host for the league.

But enough of the clamoring for a better waiver wire system, let’s get into this week’s Waiver Wire Stashes.

WR Stashes

Ryan Flournoy, Dallas (1 percent Yahoo!, 1 percent ESPN, 11 percent Sleeper)

As long as CeeDee Lamb and KaVonte Turpin are missing time, Flournoy is a valuable pick-up.

Flournoy played 57 percent of the snaps in the Cowboys’ win against NY Jets and had a standout game. He finished with 6 catches for 114 yards on 9 targets.

He outshined Jalen Tolbert, who was held without a catch on 1 target.

Now Flournoy may be regulated back to the bench when everyone is healthy, but his production vs. the Jets may give the Dallas coaching staff confidence in him again if another injury hits the WR corps.

Isaiah Bond, Cleveland (6 percent Yahoo!, 4 percent ESPN, 21 percent Sleeper)

Bond has taken over Cedric Tillman’s spot since he injured his hamstring in Week 4. And though Bond hasn’t had a big game stat-wise, he seeing targets in his limited playing time.

Bond is seeing an 18 percent target share in his limited 77 plays during the two games.

He has played the second most snaps among the Browns WRs in the last two games as well, only trailing Jerry Jeudy who has played 118 snaps.

RB Stashes

Nyheim Hines, LA Chargers (1 percent Yahoo!, 1 percent ESPN, 1 percent Sleeper)

I know Hines is only on the practice squad and he hasn’t played a snap in the NFL in almost three years, but hear me out.

The Chargers backfield was limited to Hassan Haskins and Kamani Vidal after Omarion Hampton left with an ankle injury in the third quarter of the Chargers’ loss to Washington.

And both players can handle the running duties of the offense, however, the Chargers are a pass heavy offense and Haskins and Vidal have a combined 21 catches in a 49 games in their careers.

Now let’s get into Hines – he missed the last two seasons after suffering a knee injury in a jet ski accident in 2023 and spent training camp with the Chargers this summer before being released. He has some experience with this offense.

But what makes Hines an interesting waiver wire stash is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Before his injury, he averaged 48 catches a season from 2018-22. And the Chargers are a passing team this season as they pass the ball 62.6 percent of the time, which is the fourth highest pass heavy offense in the league.

Someone needs to catch the ball out of the backfield until Hampton returns, so why not Hines?
