The Chicago White Sox have been a pleasant surprise this season. They are currently 34-31 and hold the second wild card spot in the American League. This is a huge step in the right direction, as they had been baseball’s worst team over the past few seasons. But the White Sox appear to be bringing in reinforcements as they are calling up their second-best prospect, Branden Montgomery. The 23-year-old outfielder will make his MLB debut Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. What impact will he have on the team?
Can Braden Montgomery Propel the White Sox to a Playoff Birth?
Montgomery has been one of the prized prospects in the White Sox farm system for the past couple of seasons. Ever since he was acquired by the team as part of the Garrett Crochet trade, he has skyrocketed up the White Sox minor league system. During the 2025 season, he started the season in Single-A Kannapolis. It only took him 18 games to move up to High-A Winston-Salem. After putting up impressive numbers, he was promoted and finished the season with Double-A Birmingham. Jumping three levels is not easy and shows great promise.
However, this season he has gotten even better. He has already been promoted to Triple-A Charlotte, but his numbers are what are catching everyone’s attention. In 56 games between Double and Triple-A, he has slashed .314/.422/.548 with 10 home runs, 41 RBIs, and a .397 BABIP. These numbers are not inflated by his doing really well with one team. His numbers are nearly identical between the two teams. It shows that no matter what competition he is facing, he will be able to hit.
This should inspire a lot of confidence in Montgomery’s ability to perform in the majors. Sure, there will be a bit of an adjustment period, but his stats indicate it won’t last long. This is good for the White Sox, as his ability to hit for power has been the main thing scouts have praised him for. He is someone who can be a middle-of-the-order bat for the White Sox and a main source of run production. This can give the White Sox the extra boost they need to turn it into one of the best in baseball.
With the White Sox missing Munetaka Murakami for the next few weeks with a hamstring injury, they need someone to replace his bat in the lineup. He has been, without question, the best bat they have had this season, and losing him is a big blow. Sure, Montgomery can not shoulder all of this responsibility, but if he is able to hit as he did in the minors, it will make up for some of the production they are missing. He can help them tread water and not fall apart while Murakami is rehabbing from injury.
White Sox fans should be very excited by the promise of Montgomery. He is someone who can be a solid bat in the middle of the order and make the lineup even more dangerous than it is now.
