Training camps are in full swing. The Hall of Fame game is out of the way. Playing the stock-up/stock-down game during the preseason is one of the biggest ways to show off dynasty fantasy football prowess. What’s just hype and what’s real? Is that overzealous beat reporter selling you on the 6th-round rookie you drafted in the last round of your league’s rookie draft? More importantly, who are the players starting to show on the tea leaves that their stock is trending downward? Here are my 3 biggest training camp dynasty fallers:
TreVeyon Henderson- New England Patriots
The name has enough hype around it to gain some serious value back, but I think pre-season might be your last chance to get as much value as possible. Reports out of camp suggest that Henderson looks very much like the player we saw last year: exciting at times but lacking the pass-protection skills to become a 3-down back. Henderson also has a Rhamondre Stevenson problem. Stevenson held a stranglehold on the starting job for most of the season last year, and coach Mike Vrabel seems to trust the veteran way more than the young running back. Having foresight in fantasy football is extremely important.
Henderson is the type of player who can get you a bona fide starter back this year if you are a win-now team, and it will feel okay even if Henderson eventually does go on to have success. It seems hard to see him hit as high as his current perceived value, even if that’s only for the short term. On win-now teams, I’m looking to sell. On rebuilds, I’m waiting for a few games into the season for a possible cheap buying opportunity.
Kenyon Sadiq- New York Jets
I have been screaming loud and proud for the past year that Sadiq and Jeremyiah Love are the only two sure thing locks in this draft class. Ever since the draft, he has been becoming a cheaper asset to acquire by the day. The Jets had to be one of the worst landing spots. They have both short- and long-term quarterback question marks. Their wide receiver depth chart looks pretty solid now, with Garrett Wilson, Omar Cooper Jr, and Adonai Mitchell. They drafted another young tight end in the second round in 2025, in Mason Taylor.
Now, there are injury concerns. Sadiq is coming off offseason hernia surgery and is said to have had a “minor setback.” While it seems likely that he will be healthy for Week 1, there will be no rush to throw the rookie into the mix, as he learns the playbook and gets practice reps. In dynasty fantasy football, I am treating this as a buying scenario in all formats and team builds. There is no doubt that his value is down, and I am still very confident he becomes one of the best tight ends in the league for years to come.
Courtland Sutton- Denver Broncos
The only veteran on the list. Listen, Sutton has never felt like a sexy dynasty asset. He has always produced more than expected. He has put together a really good career and is one of the best third-down wide receivers in the league. The reason why Sutton is falling in dynasty value is more about the guys around him than anything else. The Broncos brought in Jaylen Waddle via trade. Pat Bryant is getting a lot of training camp hype. Troy Franklin is Bo Nix’s college teammate and is coming off a very productive second season.
Even at the other positions, the Broncos seem to have a lot of mouths to feed. Is there a Sean Payton/Taysom Hill reunion on the horizon? They already have the almost-dead Evan Engram and exciting rookie Justin Joly at tight end. At running back, they have a three-headed horse, with JK Dobbins, RJ Harvey, and rookie Jonah Coleman all expecting to have roles in the offense. This team is a fantasy football nightmare. Sutton just signed a 4-year extension, which seemed a little confusing, but I’m taking a 2027 2nd rounder for Sutton if anyone is offering. (Please Do)
