As the preseason continues in full swing, the next few weeks become extremely important in taking stances in your dynasty fantasy football leagues. Which veteran looks washed and ready to be replaced by a hotter, younger version faster than a suburban housewife? What rookie seems like he was overhyped? What minor injury is scaring your league mates enough that they want to get out from under a player? These are all questions you should be asking yourself these next few weeks. Here are three guys I think have higher perceived value than their production will match this year in fantasy football.
Josh Jacobs- Green Bay Packers
Jacobs feels like your one buddy who believes his girlfriend’s best “guy friend” doesn’t want to sleep with her. His world is about to be rocked, and he is the only one who doesn’t know it. Hopefully, at least one of your league mates has the same blindness. You got legal problems. Check. You got a bad groin. Check. Twenty-Eight years old. Yuck. I got rid of Jacobs for a 27 2nd and 3rd this week, and I felt like I should send my league mate’s mom a “I’m sorry” card for embarrassing her son so badly.
Marshawn Llyod can be a problem if he stays healthy himself. The team can save 13.5 million if they cut Jacobs next off-season. One of the most important aspects of dynasty is knowing when to sell a running back before their wheels fall off, as their value can plummet to zero in an instant in fantasy football. Get rid of Jacobs for whatever you can scrape from the contender in your league who is a little short at the running back position. Or any boomers in your league. Start with them.
Jacoby Brissett- Arizona Cardinals
If you are hanging on to Brissett as anything beyond a starting QB in a super flex fantasy football league on a win-now team, it is time to cash out. Sure, if you need him to start, keep him. But if you can find the league mate who needs him, run to send spam offers right now. Honestly, stop reading this for a minute and come back. The Cardinals are one of the worst teams in the league. I’m not expecting that to change just yet.
They are going to want to get a look at new draft pick Carson Beck before the season’s end, so Brissett’s last hurrah is in the near future. I do remember when he left New England, I said, “he’ll never start in this league again.”And then when he went on to play with the Colts and that didn’t work out, I said, “I know I was wrong last time, but man, this guy will never get another shot to start again. Cue Miami Dolphins. And the Cleveland Browns. Whatever. This time he’s definitely done.
But remind your league mate in the trade notes that the guy has had more lives than a cat. This might be a “wait until he has a good game or two” type of move, but I’m not even sure I’d take that chance at this point if I could get a young player that I like that I expect will rise in value in the coming weeks as well.
Travis Hunter- Jacksonville Jaguars
Listen. You made a mistake when you picked him 3rd overall in your rookie draft last year. We’ve all been there. So many marriages stay afloat because the scorned spouse says, “They can change. They can get better.” Spoiler alert. They never get better. But where you are at an advantage that the scorned spouse does not have, you can trade your piece of crap in for something still. You will not get the full value he had when you got him. They’ve gotten fat, and they aren’t doing everything we were told they would do.
By that I mean play offense and defense. Or doing the dishes. To-may-toe, Toe-ma-toe. Are we even still talking about fantasy football? Hunter was never going to be able to play both positions in the NFL at a high level, and it was always clear he was the better defensive back. If the exciting toy still seduces someone, send him along for a sexy little thing you’ve had your eye on.
