College Football 2025: 4 Breakout Freshman You Need To Know

When heading into a new season of College Football, all the buzz and hype typically surrounds returning players who are likely to have their breakout season based on their performance from the previous year. Incoming Freshmen are often overlooked, as it’s “not their time yet,” but every year, there are a few who come in and make an immediate impact. Here are the top four names you should get familiar with heading into the 2025 college football season.

Bryce Underwood (QB, Michigan)

Bryce Underwood is one of the more intriguing prospects for the upcoming College Football Season; he first committed to LSU but received much attention when he flipped to Michigan. At 6″3, 210 pounds, with elite arm talent and dual-threat mobility, Underwood is your ideal quarterback build. He is joining a Michigan Wolverines squad that is coming off a down year, having won the national championship with current Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy at the helm. Underwood is the #1 recruit in his class and is expected to turn heads next year with his elite quarterback play. Expect big things from Underwood next year, as expectations are as high as we’ve seen in a while for a freshman QB.

Caleb Cunningham (WR, Ole Miss)

Caleb Cunningham will be joining the Ole Miss Rebels in his first year of college, a program with a long history of producing elite wide receivers, including names like A.J. Brown, DK Metcalf, and Chris Collins, who have played college ball there. Cunningham brings immense big-play potential to an already electric Ole Miss offense. Ole Miss has an Air Raid identity, and Cunningham has the opportunity to have an elite first year. He is predicted to step into a starting role immediately with Lane Kiffin’s vertical-heavy scheme to get a taste of Cunningham’s elite catch radius and deep-ball tracking skills.

Gideon Davis (RB, Clemson)

Gideon Davis is a five-star running back coming out of Cheshire Academy and is already listed on Clemson’s depth chart as their starting running back. He has a stocky build, coming in at 6’0″, 200 pounds, with a mix of burst and balance, making him a constant threat to break off long runs. Clemson’s starting back for the 2024 season, Phil Mafah, was drafted in the seventh round by the Dallas Cowboys, so Davis will be coming in with a hole to fill in Clemson’s offense. Davis is bringing 4.4 speed as an every-down back for the Clemson Tigers. The coaching staff has already made it clear that they love his maturity and work ethic, so don’t be surprised if Davis is one of the leading factors as the Clemson Tigers try to win their second consecutive ACC championship.

Dakorien Moore (WR, Oregon)

Dakorien Moore is entering his first year after being one of the most electrifying players in high school football, having graduated from Duncanville High School in Texas. His decision to choose Oregon over a powerhouse school in the SEC shows his confidence in making an immediate impact in the Big Ten Conference. Standing in at 5″11, 182 pounds, Morris is a speed demon mixed with exceptional route running ability; he went off for 71 receptions, 1523 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns in his junior year of high school and showed no intention of slowing down in his senior year bringing in 74 receptions for 1,460 yards and 19 touchdowns averaging a whopping 19.7 yards per catch. Remember the name Dakorien Moore for years to come. He is a certified baller and has game-breaker ability.
