Last week was just one of those weeks leading into this week’s busy The DFS Must Starts schedule.
First I had family in for a great occasion for one my nieces and then good old covid found its way into my household.
I think we “acquired” it during my nephew’s college graduation, and it finally may its way through my wife, myself, my daughter’s boyfriend and then my daughter.
I’m finally feeling much better but our families’ Christmas plans are jumbled now. But that’s not stopping me from providing some top DraftKings plays for the busy Week 17 schedule.
Let’s get into our Christmas plays!
QB DFS Must Start
Dak Prescott, Dallas ($6,900, 56 percent rostered)
Prescott is the just the start of the obvious build I’m not going to ignore.
The Cowboys have been eliminated from the playoffs but Prescott should continue to pad his passing stats against the porous Washington defense.
The Commanders have allowed the fourth most points on DK to QBs this season at 21.1 points a game.
Washington has given up 20.4 points to Minnesota’s J.J. McCarthy, 23.1 points to NY Giants’ Jaxson Dart and 19.4 points to Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts in its last three games.
And Prescott is a much better passer and should feast!
If I had to pick a second QB to play it would be whoever starts to Washington. Marcus Mariota is questionable and has been a non-participant in both practices this week. Josh Johnson ($4,400, 33 percent rostered) is expected to get the nod if Mariota can’t go. And by the way, the Cowboys pass defense sucks, too, to the tune of allowing 25.8 DK points to QBs this season.
RB DFS Must Start
Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit ($8,300, 91 percent rostered)
I know this seems like a cherry picked start with Prescott and Gibbs, but I bypassed the obvious Philadelphia super stack last Saturday and I’m not doing it again.
You can get different after the four players I have as my must starts.
Gibbs had a very slow start against Pittsburgh last week, but poured on the stats in the fourth quarter as he finished with 22.8 DK points.
Minnesota has been solid against RBs this season, but the Lions are playing for their playoff lives and they need a big game from Gibbs.
If we ignore the earlier game in November, Gibbs has destroyed the Vikings. He has scored 9 TDs against their NFC North Division rival, while averaging 78 yards rushing and 3.2 receptions in five games.
Dallas’ Javonte Williams ($6,300, 67.7 percent rostered) and Denver’s RJ Harvey ($6,500, 28.4 percent rostered) are my next two favorite RBs.
WR DFS Must Start
CeeDee Lamb, Dallas ($7,600, 49.6 percent rostered)
I can’t pick the correct Cowboys WRs on a weekly basis in DFS, but the spreadsheet says Lamb so I’m going to listen.
Until last week, Lamb has a three-week streak of 20 DK points or more and he continues to be a target hog. He has seen 7 or more targets in every game this season except when he was injured early in the Chicago game in Week 3.
The Commanders give up 36.6 DK points to WRs this season, and Lamb scored 25 DK points in the teams’ first matchup of the season.
TE DFS Must Start
Jake Ferguson, Dallas ($4,300, 32 percent rostered)
Ferguson has slowed down the second half of the season after his blistering pace had him as a Top 3 TE at the beginning of the season.
Most of the slowdown was the return of Lamb from his Week 3 injury. Ferguson has only averaged 5.2 targets a game since Week 7. In the first six weeks of the season, he averaged 8.5 targets.
But the matchup is a good one this week against the Commanders defense that allows 16.1 DK points to TEs this season.
DST DFS Must Start
Denver ($3,700, 61.5 percent rostered) at Kansas City
