There have been multiple reports that Odell Beckham Jr. is interested in a potential reunion with the G-men via Instagram, as he has hinted at coming back to Big Blue at Fanatics Fest this week. The 32-year-old veteran wide receiver also stated he “never wanted to leave New York.”
OBJ spent a season in Miami with the Dolphins most recently and the Baltimore Ravens before that, along with the Browns for a few years. Even after winning a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, he never hit that All-Pro season or got close like he did as a Giant a few times. The most recent 1,000-yard season was back in 2019 in his first season in Cleveland.
Now that the offseason is hitting a quiet spot before training camp in August, there are rumblings of his return in the Big Apple, but the real question is whether the Giants even need him on the roster. While a potential signing could be for retirement, it could also be for veteran depth at the position.
Giants WR Depth Could Use a Vet like Beckham
With a new running back tandem in rookie Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr., along with a quarterback battle at the top, there will be many changes to the Brian Daboll offense for 2025. While the emergence of former first-rounder Malik Nabers obviously makes a case for even a better season with improved QB play, Darius Slayton comes back, along with Jalin Hyatt.
Hyatt just didn’t see the field last year but is looking to make it his year, bulking up 15-20 pounds this offseason, so a potential signing would hinder his snap count as a deep threat. However, he already left minicamp early last week with a minor hamstring injury.
While the speedster has time to get healthy in a month, Hyatt was seeing a good connection with free agent signing Russell Wilson, who will likely be the starter in Week 1. Whether it’s Russ, free agent signing Jameis Winston, Tommy DeVito, or rookie Jaxson Dart, this offense should be way different regardless of this upcoming year.
This injury, although minor, does allow for a potential reunion with OBJ, as they will need receiver depth with Nabers not participating in mini camp due to a toe injury. The standouts of camp have been receivers that will likely be fighting for a roster spot come August, like Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, and Beaux Collins.
Wan’Dale Robinson is already the cemented starter in the slot, along with Nabers and Slayton on the outside, but players like Zach Pascal, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Montrell Washington, Da’Quan Felton, and Antwane Wells Jr. round out their receiving core at the moment. They are missing some veteran experience, and Beckham Jr. could fit right in to play for his old team one last time.
