Fantasy Football Impact of the Russell Wilson Signing

Fantasy football season is right around the corner! Russell Wilson has signed a one-year contract with the New York Giants worth up to $21 million. The Giants also brought in Quarterback Jameis Winston on a two-year deal worth $8 million. Per Adam Schefter’s podcast, Schefter stated that he “would not be surprised” if the Giants still took a quarterback with the third overall pick in the NFL Draft. The Giant’s plans are still uncertain, but let’s look at the fantasy football impact of Wilson signing with Big Blue.

Value Risers

Giants Offensive Supporting Cast

The Giants clearly needed to acquire a new starting quarterback for the 2025 season after the disastrous performance from the position last year. While we don’t know who the clear starter is next year for New York, we do know that Wilson, Winston, and potentially Shedeur Sanders are all upgrades at quarterback.

Malik Nabers

Wide receiver Malik Nabers is the biggest winner of the Wilson signing. Nabers had a spectacular rookie campaign where he recorded 109 receptions, 1,204 yards, and 7 touchdowns. With poor quarterback play and missing two games, Nabers was still able to finish as the WR6. Nabers was a target hog for the Giants’ offense last season, and with upgraded quarterback play, those targets could lead to even better production for Nabers in 2025. Nabers should not only continue his WR1 numbers, but he could propel himself into the elite tier of fantasy football wide receivers.

Tyrone Tracy Jr.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. should see an uptick in production next season with improved quarterback play in 2025. Tracy Jr. was a great story in his rookie season, where he totaled over 1,100 yards and recorded 6 touchdowns. If Tracy Jr. can keep a stranglehold on the starting job, upgraded quarterback play will certainly help him produce solid fantasy football numbers. Tracy Jr. took over the starting job in Week 5, and from Week 5 on, there were four games where Tracy Jr. recorded 9 or fewer carries. With improved quarterback play, the Giants shouldn’t be trailing big in as many games next season, leading to a more balanced game script and more opportunities for Tracy Jr.

Wan’Dale Robinson

Outside of Nabers and Tracy Jr., there isn’t as much fantasy relevancy for the Giants, but this could potentially change with the signing of Russell Wilson. Wan’Dale Robinson is a name to be on the lookout for in 2025 as a late-round sleeper pick. Robinson had an interesting 2025 season. Robinson recorded 140 targets and 93 receptions, but only yielded 699 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Robinson’s average depth of target (ADOT) was 4.8, which ranked as 106th among receivers. There is potential for Robinson to improve on these numbers and continue to be in the weekly flex conversation.

Value Losers

DK Metcalf and George Pickens

While the Pittsburgh Steelers are most likely to sign Quarterback Aaron Rodgers to be at the helm in 2025, it hasn’t happened yet. If Rodgers signs with the Steelers, DK Metcalf and George Pickens should restore their value.

Rodgers is the last reliable option for the Steelers at quarterback next season. For some unforeseen reason, if the Steelers don’t sign Rodgers, and now they cannot bring back Russell Wilson. This would most likely leave Metcalf and Pickens with a putrid quarterback season ahead, tanking their fantasy football output.

Uncertain

Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson’s fantasy football value is uncertain right now. The Giants own the third-overall pick and have been rumored for months to take a quarterback. Signing Wilson could mean the Giants want him to start all of the 2025 season for them; it could also mean New York wants Wilson to mentor a quarterback they take in the draft.

It’s hard to determine how much Wilson will play in 2025 right now, but if Wilson starts all 17 games for the Giants, expect another season of middle-of-the-line QB2 numbers.
