The Las Vegas Raiders wasted no time adding depth to the receiver room after WR Jakobi Meyers requested a trade on Monday.
The Raiders have agreed to terms with WR Amari Cooper on a one-year deal, per Ian Rapoport. The base value of the contract is $3.5 million, with a maximum value of $6 million.
COOOOOOP!
Amari Cooper was selected 4th overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft. During his three and a half years with the franchise, Cooper recorded 225 receptions, 3,183 receiving yards, and 19 touchdowns. Cooper was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Raiders.
In the middle of the 2018 season, the Jon Gruden-led Oakland Raiders traded Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2019 first-round draft pick. For those keeping score at home, the Raiders selected safety Johnathan Abram with the pick acquired from Dallas via trade. Abram (28) is currently a free agent.
5-Time Pro Bowler
Amari Cooper went on to sign a five-year $100 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys in March of 2020. With Dallas, Cooper was a playmaker. He played in 56 games, catching 292 passes for 3,893 yards and 27 touchdowns. However, the Dallas Cowboys traded their two-time Pro-Bowl receiver to the Cleveland Browns just two seasons after signing him to a $100 million deal.
With the Browns, Cooper was a reliable target. In two seasons, he recorded 150 receptions, 2,410 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns. Cooper earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023.
Last year, Cooper appeared in six games with the Cleveland Browns before being traded midseason for the second time in his career—this time to the Buffalo Bills. Cooper had a down year with both teams, recording 44 receptions, 547 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. He dealt with a lingering wrist injury throughout the 2024 season and had surgery this offseason.
10-Year NFL Veteran
The Raiders have a young core of pass catchers. The addition of Amari Cooper will provide a much-needed veteran presence to the group.
