NFL Fantasy Week 3 Buy or Sell?

NFL Week 2 provided us with much more clarity regarding roles, snap share, injuries, etc., as it always does. It was one of the highest scoring weeks in a one o’clock slate ever. It was extremely exciting and one I hope you were able to watch. Moving forward this week, let’s look at players to buy or sell heading into week 3 and the rest of the 2025 NFL season.

Week 3 Buys

Brian Thomas Jr.

Brian Thomas Jr. was a borderline first-round pick this season in fantasy football and one that was extremely exciting. Well, he has disappointed after two weeks and has struggled with a case of the drops. He was targeted 12 times on Sunday, only hauling in four of them. A lot of folks who may be casual fantasy players or football fans were extremely frustrated with him. This is always the perfect time to buy. A lot of the time, the key to being a great fantasy football player is to trust in the process because more often than not, the process will help you win your league. This is the quintessential example.

Thomas Jr. has had 19 total opportunities through two weeks, with only five catches and 60 yards. His opportunity and talent are very much there. Buy him and try to get him for cheaper than he would have post-draft. Offer players like James Conner, Breece Hall, Travis Etiene Jr., Courtland Sutton, and Marvin Harrison Jr. Even a combination of two of them, I will feel comfortable with.

Omarion Hampton

Omarion Hampton was one of the most hyped running backs out in draft season. The rookie was drafted to a Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman offense and proclaimed as the lead running back. The unfortunate part for Hampton is that Harbaugh finally decided to pass the ball to Justin Herbert. Hampton has had two lackluster games so far. He’s totaled 72 yards on 23 carries. Averaging three yards per carry and zero touchdowns. While it does look like the Chargers will stay a passing offense, I do not think that Najee Harris can take this job from Hampton.

They equaled the same amount of carries on Monday Night, but he still outsnapped Harris 36 to 20. I think it is a nice home for both players to snap each week. This is probably the only time to buy low, get him now while you can. I would trade Tyreek Hill for him, along with Rome Odunze and Alvin Kamara.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt

Bill, Bill, Bill… (Jacory Croskey-Merritt)One of the most overdrafted players in fantasy football (Guilty myself) might actually be able to live up to his draft status this season. Unfortunately, one of the good guys of the NFL has to have a season-ending injury to make it happen: Austin Ekeler. Croskey-Merritt looked good in his limited opportunities on Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers (4). Granted, it was an extremely small sample size, but every time he has been on the field, it has been positive. He played 15 snaps against the Packers to Ekeler’s 36. He was even out-snapped by Jeremy McNichols, so why am I telling you to buy him? Well, he is coming off an absolute stinker of a game, and he has that stink on him, and if he starts next week, he could end up establishing himself as a league winner in 2025. I believe McNichols will get the passing work, but if Croskey-Merritt gets early downs, his opportunity should be enough. We have already seen him get goal-line work in week one.

I would trade players like Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, and Jordan Mason to try and get Bill. These guys will not have the upside potential that Bill will have as the lead back in Washington.

Week 3 Sells

Tyreek Hill

Well, Tyreek Hill had a 100-yard game in a presumed season from hell in week 2? That means sell to me! But seriously, Tyreek Hill was at an All-time low headed into the year. He has personal issues going on, plus uncertainty at head coach and quarterback. This is the perfect time to sell. Tyreek Hill has not been his normal self for over a full year now, and unless he gets traded, I do not see it getting better in Miami. While he is averaging 6.5 targets per game, the catchability of those targets would be in question.

Make sure you sell Tyreek Hill before it is too late. Now, he does have some stink on him still with no touchdown in the 100-yard game, but he still tries to get an RB to help you out the rest of the season that is more reliable. I would target Omarion Hampton, and after his underwhelming first two weeks of the year, I think that is a deal that could get done.

Confidence: 7/10

Garrett Wilson

Garrett Wilson has been a highly inconsistent player throughout his NFL career. Most of this is due to the volatility in play at quarterback that the New York Jets have often had. He is a phenomenal player, and when he had Aaron Rodgers at QB and no Davante Adams lining up opposite him, he was a certified stud.

Justin Fields may provide less consistency for Wilson in 2025. The Fields and Wilson Connection was rock solid in Week One and cannot then in Week Two, where we were very limited in putting it together. Fields is now in concussion protocol for week three. This is the time to get out from under Wilson with potential rough seas ahead. I would trade Wilson for Omarion Hampton, Kyren Williams, or Breece Hall.

Confidence: 8/10

A.J. Brown

A.J. Brown has been falling in all of our rankings for a while now. He has been one of the most dropped players since draft season in my rankings as well. It is not because I do not believe in him as a player, but because of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ ability to win games in 65 different ways, and the majority of them do not involve passing the ball a lot down the field. It is unfortunate because when A.J. Brown is rolling, it is a fun watch, but the Eagles have hit this point in their evolution where they do not need this asset each week.

If you are still feeling good about Brown, I understand, but I would trade him to try and get more points week-to-week into my starting lineup. I would trade A.J. Brown for Ladd McConkey, James Cook, or Brian Thomas Jr. I like Consistent production, and I think that these guys would get you that each week vs. the lack of consistent ceiling from Brown.
