Wan’Dale Robinson: Not Just a Slot Receiver

Wan’Dale Robinson was already considered one of the better slot receivers. His 93 catch season was not talked about enough, and even though it was mostly underneath from the motley crew they had at quarterback, he created many first downs with his YAC ability. With his quickness and elusiveness, he was able to move the chains constantly on first downs for the New York Giants.

I would already consider him in the tier of the Christian Kirk‘s, Jayden Reed‘s, and Josh Downs of the world, but I could see him taking another step forward. Robinson is looking to provide more of a downfield element to his game, and in a contract year, it could happen now that the Giants have likely better quarterback play with Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart, and Jameis Winston.

Wan’Dale Robinson is a Target Monster for the Giants

The former second-rounder from Kentucky, even if he isn’t the number one receiver with Malik Nabers, could still thrive even if he has fewer targets. Robinson already had a high target rate as a red zone threat with 17 targets, despite his size and true game-breaking speed. The 24-year-old entering year four had a 22% target share but did struggle with yardage, averaging under 50 yards a game with that high volume.

His burst and agility separate him from other slot receivers, while having the balance to keep drives alive consistently. Wan’Dale had a receiving yard shy of 700 on a whopping 140 targets, hauling in 93 of them and scoring three times. After two seasons of missing games due to injury, he was healthy in 2024 and was the other option for Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito last season, besides Nabers.

So far, he has already been excellent in camp, with multiple touchdowns from Russ and some acrobatic catches. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan and SNY Giants showcase his highlight plays from the last few team practices at camp.

Critical Weapon for Brian Daboll in a Contract Year

Wilson, as the proclaimed starter, could unlock a deep ball element to Daboll’s offense, something they didn’t really have last year. That includes players like Nabers, but also Robinson and other deep ball receivers like Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt. CBS’s Dan Schneier highlighted Wan’Dale’s traits further as more than a check-down option.

Robinson was good in contested situations, as the offense will look to take shots downfield, but ultimately try to manage the game with young backs Tyrone Tracy Jr. and rookie Cam Skattebo. With the big difference being quarterback, Giants Nation featured a quote from Wan’Dale about Wilson’s throws and why he prefers them already.

Wan’Dale is the perfect chain mover for this offense that is looking to take a big step forward in 2025.
