Week 10 Fantasy Surprises and Disappointments

As Week 10 wraps up, fantasy managers are either celebrating unexpected heroes or lamenting underwhelming performances.

Surprisingly, basically none of the startable running backs busted this week, at least for PPR. We got major boom performances from Jonathan Taylor, De’Von Achane, and Jahmyr Gibbs; all week winning performances with 38, 40, and 49 (!) points. Breece Hall and Kyren Williams had good outings, along with Kimani Vidal, who has a good game every other week.

Drake London was the lead receiver for fantasy, along with rookie Emeka Egbuka. Nico Collins was vintage with backup quarterback Davis Mills, along with Chris Olave, Ladd McConkey, and NFL-leading wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Rome Odunze had a bounce-back week, along with solid performances from Davante Adams, Puka Nacua, and Jaylen Waddle.

Trey McBride and George Kittle led the tight ends, per usual, but this was Kittle’s first boom game this season, along with rookie Tyler Warren, who returned to form after a down week in Week 9. The wide receivers, tight ends, and quarterbacks overall were all relatively pedestrian, with just above 20 but under 30 fantasy points.

Let’s break down the biggest surprises and disappointments from this week’s action in Week 10.

Surprises of Week 10

  • TreVeyon Henderson, RB, New England Patriots

Fantasy Points: 28 (PPR)

Why It’s Surprising: Although it took multiple injuries, rookie TreVeyon Henderson finally broke out against the Bucs, hopefully making him a starter over Rhamondre Stevenson even when he comes back from injury.

Fantasy Impact: He should be a running back two or flex option moving forward, at least for another week, hoping Mike Vrabel trusts him as the lead back moving forward for the Patriots.

  • Davis Mills, QB, Houston Texans

Fantasy Points: 27.68

Why It’s Surprising: For him to be a backup to QB1 for fantasy in a down week is crazy, as Houston has struggled on offense recently but found something in the passing game with Davis Mills under center.

Fantasy Impact: This was a positive for the Texans’ offense, as Mills was able to target Dalton Schultz and Collins at a high rate. He could be considered an option to stream if C.J. Stroud is out again, if it is a plus matchup.

  • Bonus Surprises: Matthew Stafford (QB) Los Angeles Rams; Alec Pierce (WR) Indianapolis Colts; Jameson Williams (WR) Detroit Lions; Jalen Nailor (WR) Minnesota Vikings; Tez Johnson (WR) Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Jerry Jeudy (WR) Cleveland Browns; Juwan Johnson (TE) New Orleans Saints; Dalton Schultz (TE) Houston Texans; Cade Otton (TE) Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Parker Washington (WR) Jacksonville Jaguars; Jauan Jennings (WR) San Francisco 49ers

Disappointments of Week 10

  • Sam Darnold, QB, Seattle Seahawks

Fantasy Points: 4.92

Why It’s Disappointing: After a great game in Week 9, failing to hit double-digit fantasy points as a starter hurt Sam Darnold‘s fantasy managers. This was an above-average matchup against the Cardinals, as Seattle put up 44, but it was mostly with the run game and defensive scores.

Fantasy Impact: Darnold is still a borderline top 15 fantasy quarterback, but if the Seahawks aren’t pushed, don’t expect Seattle to pour it on late in games, as that will limit the passing volume, especially. In plus matchups, he still should be a start.

  • D.J. Moore, WR, Chicago Bears

Fantasy Points: 0 (PPR)

Why It’s Disappointing: After a solid performance in Week 9, in a good matchup against the Giants, Moore disappointed, as the Chicago Bears went back to Odunze as the primary target earner.

Fantasy Impact: Moore remains a boom-bust wide receiver three for fantasy and should be a borderline flex, but is still a risky start even in good matchups.

  • Bonus Busts: T.J. Hockenson (TE), Jordan Addison (WR), and Justin Jefferson (WR) Minnesota Vikings; Hunter Henry (TE) New England Patriots; Brock Bowers (TE) Las Vegas Raiders; Bo Nix (QB) and Courtland Sutton (WR) Denver Broncos; Kyle Pitts (TE) Atlanta Falcons; Michael Pittman (WR) Indianapolis Colts; Keenan Allen (WR) Los Angeles Chargers; Aaron Rodgers (QB) Pittsburgh Steelers
