Sleepers & Duds: Stroud, Kyren Williams lead strong list for Week 9

Sleepers & Duds Week 9

Halloween season is over and now we begin the home stretch to Thanksgiving and Christmas with our Sleepers & Duds for Week 9.

Let’s keep it simple and jump right into this week’s Sleeper & Duds!

QB Sleepers

C.J. Stroud, Houston

Denver may be one of the top defenses against quarterbacks this season, but the Broncos will be without their elite cornerback Patrick Surtain II.

Plus, Stroud is coming off his best passing yardage game of the season, even without his top WR Nico Collins. And with the return of Collins this weekend, Stroud and the offense should be able to continue its recent passing offense resurgence.

Houston have averaged 255.3 passing yards a game in its last three.

QB Duds

Bo Nix, Denver

I’ll stay in the same game for by QB Dud this week with Nix.

Nix faces a Texans defense ranked fourth in the NFL this season in pass defense. Houston has given up only 178.4 passing yards a game, and only gets better at home, giving up 153.0 passing yards a game.

Plus, Nix has been more effective throwing the ball at home than on the road. He has thrown for just more than 187 yards a game on the road compared to 251 passing yards a game at home.

RB Sleepers

Kyren Williams, LA Rams

I know Williams is not much of a sleeper as most fantasy managers will start him in their lineups.

But he should be an upside play for the Rams and fantasy managers alike this week as he’s played well in his last two games against New Orleans.

Williams has averaged 104 yards rushing and a touchdown in his last two matchups vs. the Saints.

RB Duds

James Cook III, Buffalo

Cook III busted out of his two-game slump with a big game against Carolina. He finished with 216 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the Bills’ road win vs. the Panthers.

This week the running gets a little tougher against Kansas City. The Chiefs enters the game as the league’s 11th best run defense, giving up 100.0 yards a game.

And the Chiefs defense has been absolutely stout the last three games as they have given up only 61.0 rushing yards in its last three.

WR Sleepers

Roman Wilson, Pittsburgh

Wilson has quietly seen his playing time increase the last two games. He’s played 58 and 46 percent of the snaps in that stretch.

He has seen 8 targets in his last three games and he finished with 4 catches on 5 targets for 74 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers’ Sunday Night loss to Green Bay.

Wilson may finally be healthy after missing most of last season with a hamstring injury.

WR Duds

Quinton Johnston, LA Chargers

Johnston has become the odd man out recently in the Chargers‘ WRs room.

He was the team’s leading receiver after LA’s first four games, but seen only 10 targets over the last three games, including none in the Chargers’ win against Minnesota last week.

Now the Chargers head to Tennessee, who despite their one-win record only give up 215.8 passing yards a game.

With Ladd McConkey’s recent play and Keenan Allen’s resurgence, Johnston’s targets may still be limited.

TE Sleepers

Colston Loveland, Chicago

I know Loveland’s snap share has been less than Cole Kmet when Kmet has been healthy, but this may be a spot where both could have strong games for the Bears.

I’ll go with the rookie for his upside. Cincinnati gives up the most fantasy points a game to TEs this season at 15.0 points.

Kmet missed Week 8 with a back injury and was only a full participant in Friday’s practice this week.

TE Duds

Hunter Henry, New England

Henry is entering the TE graveyard zone this weekend known as the Atlanta defense.

The Falcons have shut down the position all season as the unit has only giving up 12 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in seven games.

And Henry has only averaged 3 targets a game in his last 3 contests for the Patriots.
