RB Consistency Charts: A fantasy review of the 2025 season’s running backs

It’s kind of hard to really get into my Consistency Charts this time of year.

The Major League Baseball regular season has begun, the NBA and the NHL are making their playoff pushes, March Madness is in full swing and the NFL Draft is less than a month away.

And if you read some of my PGA Tour stories, the first major of the year – The Masters – is rapidly approaching.

But this time of the year allows me really dive into my consistency charts from the 2025 fantasy football season – quick lookback to start the preparation for the 2026 fantasy season.

This week I’m delving into the running backs and it was a pretty safe assumption that San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey was going to be at the top of the charts.

Let’s dive into what my consistency charts to show us what CMC and other RBs have built into this coming season’s draft resume.

Consistency Charts: The Gold Standard

McCaffrey was the cream of the running back group in 2025 despite being drafted mostly in the late first or second rounds last season.

His 2025 season eclipsed his 2019 1,000 yard-1,000 year, according to my charts. In 2019, he scored a 2.49 after that historic season, but 2025 was just a smidge better at 2.53.

What separates him is the combination of:

  • Perfect weekly reliability (Start/GP = 1.0)
  • High-end receiving involvement (102 catches)
  • Zero turnovers

He’s not just productive — he’s predictable. That’s what makes him the safest and most valuable archetype in fantasy or analytical models when he’s healthy despite heading into his age 29 season.

Achane at No. 2

Miami’s De’Von Achane slid into second spot this past season and he wasn’t far behind CMC’s consistency mark.

Achane finished with a 2.44 consistency mark, easily ahead of Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson and Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs.

Achane’s profile screams explosiveness. Despite fewer touches than McCaffrey, he delivers elite output with one of the highest RB1 rates in my charts.

Key traits:

  • Best RB1/GP rate (0.94)
  • Extremely high yardage efficiency
  • Strong big-play ability reflected in yard rate

The only thing keeping him just below McCaffrey is slightly lower consistency. He’s more volatile — but arguably just as dangerous on a per-touch basis.

And the 2026 season will be a season of change as the Dolphins will have a new staff led by head coach Jeff Hafley and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.

Slowik running schemes will emphasis timing, blocking execution and traditional reads, instead of Mike McDaniels’ heavy outside zone and using RBs like a WR out of the backfield.

Achane’s upside may be clipped some for the 2026 season.

Two more elites

Robinson and Gibbs are the last of the RBs who scored 2.05 or higher and fell just behind CMC and Achane for the 2025 season.

However, neither one are no pushovers.

Bijan represents the modern “do-it-all” workhorse. His workload (390 touches) combined with strong efficiency metrics puts him firmly in the elite tier.

What stands out?

  • Heavy, sustainable usage
  • Balanced rushing + receiving production
  • Strong but not elite efficiency across the board in my charts

His profile suggests durability and long-term stability. He may not lead in any one category, but he has no real weaknesses.

Gibbs thrives on efficiency rather than volume dominance. His touchdown rate and overall scoring efficiency are among the best on my charts.

Highlights:

  • Elite TD per touch rate
  • Strong dual-threat capability
  • High impact despite lower touch volume

He’s the type of player who doesn’t need 20+ touches to swing a game. If volume ever increases, his ceiling jumps even higher this season without a David Montgomery sharing the Lions backfield.

The Rest of the Top 12

IndianapolisJonathan Taylor (2.04) and Cincinnati’s Chase Brown (2.02) were the only other RBs to scored 2.00 or higher in my charts.

Taylor used his elite touchdown production to remain in the Top 12 even after quarterback Daniel Jones’ injury hurt his production. Brown continues to start slow but is a consistent RB1 scoring later in the season.

LA RamsKyren Williams is the most undervalued of the Top 12 group. He’s a consistent fantasy scorer with his higher stat floor and TD efficiency.

Travis Etienne Jr. has strong consistency and receiving upside to replace Alvin Kamara in the New Orleans offense after a big year with Jacksonville.

Buffalo’s James Cook III led the league in rushing in 2025 but did not repeat his high TD rate from 2024.

Tampa Bay’s Bucky Irving, despite just playing 10 games, finished 10th in my charts, and DallasJavonte Williams was 11th. Both were consistent scorers as an RB1, RB2 or flex plays though out their seasons.

NY GiantsCam Skattebo finished 12th and appeared heading toward a Top 12 finishes in RB scoring before a lower leg injury ended his season at 8 games. He had a nose for the end zone scoring at a 11 percent clip with his 133 touches.
