This is one of the busiest weeks on the waiver wire. Everyone is trying to pick up the big stars from Week 1 and cut loose some underperformers on the bench. Many options could be a huge boost to any fantasy roster. But if you missed the initial wave of waiver pickups, plenty of options are still available. Here are three players you can still pick up on the waiver wire that can help your fantasy roster.
Dontayvion Wicks, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Dontayvion Wicks did not let the pressure of a new franchise or the Philly fan base get to him. During his Eagles debut, he had a solid performance and solidified himself as one of Hurts top targets. He caught two of four targets for 73 yards and a touchdown. He got a big chunk of those yards on a 64-yard reception in the first quarter. But he averaged 19.8 yards per target. It appears that the Eagles plan to use Wicks as a deep threat. They guy they look to make the big play.
This is very valuable for fantasy players. Sure he will have quiet weeks, but when he goes off, it could be matchup-winning type production. He also should see a decent amount of volume each week. The Eagles spread the ball out last week, with every receiver having at least four receptions. While it was one week, with no solidified wide receiver one, the Eagles should keep spreading it out until someone establishes themselves. Wicks is currently available in 32% of Sleeper leagues and 20.4% of ESPN leagues.
Pat Freiermuth, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers
While the Steelers offense was not overly impressive on Sunday, Pat Freiermuth put in a solid debut. He caught all five targets for 46 yards and a touchdown. This was tied with Jaylen Warren for most on the team. For someone in a position battle with Darnell Washington, this is a major win for Freiermuth. It is clear that he and Aaron Rodgers had good chemistry. These two factors should make Freiermuth the first-string tight end for now. He should be able to put in consistent performances.
But what gives Freiermuth so much upside is how much work he got in the red zone last week. He had two of his five targets in the red zone last week. This was the best among the Steelers’ receiving options. Now, sure, the Steelers only ran seven players inside the Falcons’ red zone last week. Still, Freiemuth was involved in nearly 30% of them, which is impressive. If the Steelers offense can get into the red zone more, his volume and points should only improve. Freiermuth is currently available on the waiver wire in 15% of Sleepers and ESPN leagues.
Devin Singletary, RB, New York Giants
While Cam Skattebo will get all the shine in the Giants’ running attack, Devin Singletary also had a solid game. He had six carries, the second most of any Giants running back, and registered 16 yards. While six touches isn’t much volume, three came in the red zone. A player with opportunity like this is hard to come by. But he produced more in the passing game, catching all four targets for 22 yards and a touchdown. He averaged a little over five yards per reception.
With another mistake from Tyrone Tracy and Najee Harris still ramping up, Singletary appears to have solidified himself as the second-string running back. Something that is hard to find on the waiver wire at this point in the season. With the Giants wanting to cut back on Jaxson Dart’s rushing attempts and being a run-first offense, this opens the door for Singletary. If Singletary stays this efficient, he can be a solid depth piece on your fantasy roster. He is currently available on the waiver wire in 17% of Sleeper leagues and 8.5% of ESPN leagues.
