An All-Time Game

What a game. Down 15 with minutes left, and Josh Allen did what Josh Allen does. He rallied the Bills and completed one of the best comebacks this decade, this century, in one of the greatest games we’ve seen in Buffalo as the Bills win over the Ravens in the final season opener at Highmark Stadium.

Takeaways From Sunday

Our defense played in two different games; it felt like vs the Baltimore Ravens in the first half. Once again, Derrick Henry dominated the Bills’ defense. It’s not something to panic about yet, Bills fans, as Henry has always shredded our defense, so it’s a good identifier on whether or not our defense will be good this season. I will, however, raise a red flag for our secondary.

Zay Flowers, coming into this, only had 1 reception for 10 yards last season vs. the Bills, and I had him as a must-start this week due to the Bills’ secondary. The secondary was far worse than what I even anticipated, but allowing Flowers to look like prime Antonio Brown should never have happened. Flowers finished the game with 7 receptions for a career best 143 yards and a TD.

I am not as worried about the corner position in Buffalo due to drafting Maxwell Hairston, but I am severely worried about the Safety position. Cole Bishop‘s first game as a starter wasn’t what we hoped for. Veteran Taylor Rapp also had a quiet night. If this Safety tandem plays vs the Chiefs like they did vs the Ravens. We have no chance at hoisting the Lombardi this season.

Credit Where Credit Is Due

Despite the Bills’ utter lack of defense in the first half. It was a completely different team in the second half. I must give credit to HC Sean McDermott because the Ravens tried desperately to run the clock out, and McDermott ran perfect all-out blitzes that held Henry in check.

My Players of the Game

Offense: Keon Coleman, the potential breakout WR, starts his 2025 campaign with numerous highlight plays against one of the best secondaries in the NFL. Coleman finishes the night with 8 receptions, for 112 yards and a TD. 11 Targets and 8 receptions are both career bests for Coleman as he looks to become the clear-cut WR1 in Buffalo.

Defense: Ed Oliver getting a key sack, 3 tackles for loss, and making the king fumble. Oliver had a career day, and he really uplifted this Bills defense when it mattered most. His veteran presence, leadership, and ability to generate significant pressure on every down were the difference on Sunday.

Around The Division

Buffalo Bills 1-0. | New York Jets 0-1 | Miami Dolphins 0-1 | New England Patriots 0-1

We already know the Bills won Sunday night but it was a major win for the Bills in regards to the AFC East as the Jets in what was supposed to be a low scoring affair turned into the 2nd best game in week 1 as Aaron Rodgers upsets his former team and throws for 4 TDs capped off by a Chris Boswell game winning field goal to send the Jets to 0-1

The Dolphins, my oh my, the Miami Dolphins. I don’t even know where to begin. Mike McDaniel‘s seat is scorching hot and it’s only week 1. Tyreek Hill‘s first game after his notable week 18 slander of the Dolphins results in Hill having another breakdown on the sidelines. This team is just awful. Who’d they lose to? Oh, just the Daniel Jones-led Indianapolis Colts, a team that some would argue is a bottom-five team in the league, and they dominated the Dolphins. It’s going to be a long year, Dolphins fans.

New England looked worse than I anticipated, as I still believe they are a borderline wildcard team in the AFC, but HC Mike Vrabel needs to utilize his RBs better. You aren’t winning many football games, forcing your inexperienced QB in Drake Maye, to throw 46 times. If that’s not the worst thing, it’s the fact that RBs Stevenson and Henderson combined for only 12 carries. Very unexpected playcalling from Mike Vrabel, but one I expect him to fix as the season goes on.
