The DFS Must Starts: Dallas offense leads Week 5 plays

The DFS Must Starts Week 5

All the years I’ve been playing NFL daily fantasy sports, nothing is more frustrating than having a great start and then the late games spoil your good lineup.

Hopefully, with this week’s The DFS Must Starts we can find a balance that can keep our lineups in the green or near the top of the standings.

Last week’s group of plays was productive as Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes was second among quarterbacks with 27.3 points. Buffalo’s James Cook III had a nice week with 25.5 points, but the running back position went off last week. Atlanta’s Drake London was second among wide receivers with 28 points and KC’s Travis Kelce let me down with a disappointing 9.8 points.

Let’s get into this week’s plays for the DraftKings Main Slate!

QB DFS Must Starts

Dak Prescott, Dallas ($6,000, 3.5 percent rostered)

Prescott has a nice matchup against the New York Jets, and Dallas brings its awful defense to NYC to face a Justin Fields-led offense.

For Prescott, it’s been up and down season so far with two game with 25-plus points around two sub-par games with less than 15 points.

Even with Dak’s sub-average 6.74 yards per passing attempt, it is the passing volume in the Cowboys’ offense that affords him as a good play this week. Prescott has thrown the ball 41.5 times a game this season and is averaging 279.8 yards a game.

RB DFS Must Starts

Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit ($7,700, 18.7 percent rostered)

Gibbs has ‘Sonic’-ed his way to the main ball carrier this season for the Lions as he holds an almost 2-1 ratio of touches compared his Knuckles backfield mate David Montgomery.

And during the Lions’ three-game winning streak, Gibbs has excelled, averaging 84 rushing yards, 1.33 touchdowns and adding 10 receptions.

Now he faces a Cincinnati defense that has allowed 32.5 DK points to running backs this season. The Bengals have given up a 100-yard game to running backs in the last two games.

WR DFS Must Starts

Quinton Johnston, LA Chargers ($5,700, 14.6 percent rostered)

Johnston has been become Justin Herbert’s top target this season as the fourth-year WR is having a breakout season.

Johnston leads the Chargers in targets (37), receiving yards (337) and receiving TDs (4) and is second in yards after the catch (116).

The Chargers face a Washington defense that is in the bottom 10 of DK points allowed to WRs this season. The Commanders have given up 36.6 DK points a game to WRs, and they have given up 25 catches for 370 yards and three TDs vs. No. 1 WRs this season.

TE DFS Must Starts

Jake Ferguson, Dallas ($4,800, 7.6 percent rostered)

Ferguson has quietly climbed to the top of the TE standings in fantasy scoring this season, and that’s with only 1 touchdown.

Ferguson has been a target hog all season and that’s even before CeeDee Lamb went down with an early injury in the Cowboys Week 3 matchup against Chicago.

The veteran TE has averaged 9.75 targets a game and has caught 87 percent of his intended targets.

The Cowboys now face a NY Jets defense that allowed two TDs to Darren Waller in his first game back in the NFL in two years.
