Eagles Week Three Recap

2026 nfl draft 3

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first loss of the 2026 NFL season Monday night, falling 27-7 to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Philadelphia entered the matchup with a 2-0 record after close victories over Washington and Tennessee, but the Eagles struggled to maintain offensive consistency against Chicago. The loss drops Philadelphia to 2-1, while the Bears improve to 2-1.

The Bears controlled the game early, taking advantage of a Philadelphia offense that struggled to sustain drives. Chicago opened the scoring when veteran quarterback Case Keenum connected with rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III for an eight-yard touchdown. The touchdown gave Chicago a 7-0 lead with 8:55 remaining in the first quarter.

Philadelphia had opportunities to respond but struggled to convert them into points for the Eagles’ offense. The Eagles managed just 248 total yards throughout the game and committed three turnovers, including two interceptions. Chicago, meanwhile, finished with 375 total yards and controlled the clock for nearly 37 minutes. The Bears extended their lead early in the second quarter when kicker Cairo Santos connected on a 29-yard field goal, putting Chicago ahead 10-0. Philadelphia finally answered late in the first half.

With time winding down to the last seconds before halftime, quarterback Jalen Hurts helped the Eagles finally reach the end zone. Hurts finished the drive by rushing for a one-yard touchdown, cutting Chicago’s lead to 10-7 just before halftime. The touchdown gave Philadelphia some momentum heading into the locker room, but the Eagles were unable to carry it into the second half.

Chicago added to its advantage in the third quarter when Santos converted a 48-yard field goal, extending the Bears’ lead to 13-7. The Bears then produced one of their biggest plays of the night when Keenum connected with Kalif Raymond for a 41-yard touchdown. The explosive play pushed Chicago’s advantage to 20-7 and gave the Bears control of the game.

Philadelphia’s offense could not find an answer. Hurts completed 16 of 25 passes for 153 yards with no passing touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 25 yards four times and scored Philadelphia’s only touchdown. The Eagles did get a strong performance from Saquon Barkley, who rushed 15 times for 82 yards. Barkley produced several important runs, including a 17-yard carry, but Philadelphia’s limited rushing attempts prevented the Eagles from consistently establishing the ground game.

DeVonta Smith remained Philadelphia’s leading receiver. Smith caught six passes for 65 yards, including a 30-yard reception that accounted for the Eagles’ longest catch of the night. Dontayvion Wicks added two receptions for 32 yards, while rookie Makai Lemon caught three passes for 29 yards.

Chicago continued to control the game in the fourth quarter. Keenum eventually scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown with 7:20 remaining, extending the Bears’ lead to 26-7 before Santos added the extra point, making it 27-7. Keenum finished the night with an impressive performance in his start, completing 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. His ability to consistently move the football allowed Chicago to control possession and keep Philadelphia’s defense on the field.

Raymond was one of the biggest offensive difference-makers for Chicago, finishing with six receptions for 90 yards and a 41-yard touchdown. Burden III also had a strong night, catching seven passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Chicago’s running game also contributed to the victory. D’Andre Swift carried the ball 20 times for 84 yards, helping the Bears control the clock and close out the game in the fourth quarter.

One of the biggest differences between the teams was possession. Chicago held the ball for 36:53 compared with Philadelphia’s 23:07. The Bears ran 69 offensive plays compared with Philadelphia’s 47, giving Chicago significantly more opportunities to move the ball. Philadelphia also struggled with penalties, committing 10 penalties for 61 yards. Chicago was penalized only five times for 45 yards.

The problems the Eagles faced last night were turnovers and penalties. Philadelphia committed three turnovers while Chicago did not turn the ball over. Those extra possessions helped the Bears maintain control and prevented Philadelphia from generating the type of comeback it produced during the first two weeks of the season. The penalties didn’t help the team either; they had 10 penalties for 61 yards, the most so far this season, and will hopefully correct these issues later in the season.

The loss also marked a difficult night for Hurts, who was briefly evaluated for a concussion after taking a late hit in the second quarter. He was eventually cleared and returned to the game, scoring Philadelphia’s only touchdown just before halftime. Philadelphia now falls to 2-1 after starting the season with consecutive victories.

The biggest areas for Philadelphia to address will be its ball security, offensive consistency, and ability to sustain drives. The Eagles generated only 248 yards and were held out of the end zone after halftime, while Chicago continued to build its lead throughout the second half.

Despite the disappointing result, Philadelphia remains above .500 through three games. The Eagles will now have an opportunity to respond at home next Sunday against the Rams and, hopefully, learn from that experience and correct the issues that contributed to Monday night’s loss.
