The Baltimore Ravens make a big splash in signing Lamar Jackson‘s former teammate at Louisville in Jaire Alexander. The former first-rounder from 2018, same draft class as Jackson, joins an already elite secondary that consists of all former first-rounders in Marlon Humphrey, Kyle Hamilton, and Nate Wiggins. Not to mention, they drafted Malaki Starks in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
According to the Athletics’ Jeff Zrebiec, the veteran 28-year-old All-Pro and Pro Bowler lands in Baltimore on a one-year deal that can get up to $6 million with incentives ($4 million base). This comes one week before the Green Bay Packers released him due to his salary and health concerns, as Alexander joins the Ravens in search of a Super Bowl title in 2025.
Ravens Sign CB Jaire Alexander to 1-Year Deal
While Alexander missed half of both seasons the past two years, he had a career-high five interceptions in 2022, and Baltimore also brought in Chidobe Awuzie in free agency. Entering his 8th NFL season, the vet corner has 12 career picks and 70 pass deflections.
This move keeps Humphrey in the nickel, where he excelled covering slot receivers in 2024. Wiggins can pair nicely with Alexander on the outside now, with Awuzie mixing in wherever he is needed. Jaire also brings that inside/ outside coverage ability, as this signing always made more sense than trading for Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins due to his salary.
After the Ravens’ defense struggled in the first half of the 2024 season, Baltimore, with a revamped secondary, looks to become the top defense in the NFL. On paper and health permitting, it rivals the Super Bowl teams in the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Not to mention the Buffalo Bills, who are their main AFC competition on paper with the Chiefs.
