After a weird Week 1 in the NFL, it’s time for our weekly Waiver Wire Stash Can.
Now I wouldn’t panic about the low fantasy numbers and pick off every player on this list, but this is a nice group to snag if you have a deep bench or practice squad spots.
I will have a player at quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end but some weeks may not provide a player pool for all four positions.
Onto this week’s Waiver Wire Stash Can players!
QB Waiver Wire Stash Can
Jaxson Dart, NY Giants (6 percent Yahoo!; 5 percent ESPN; 93 percent Sleeper)
I know I mentioned Dart last week as a Week 1 stash, but after watching Russell Wilson led the Giants pedestrian offense, the team needs to let Dart play.
Wilson was 17 of 37 passing for 168 yards and 44 rushing yards in the Giants’ 21-6 loss to Washington on Sunday.
Dart is the only player among this week’s stashes who didn’t see a snap. His play in the preseason will have the Giants faithful clamoring for a QB change soon if Wilson and the offense remain sluggish, and it will be for the better for the team’s future progress.
RB Waiver Wire Stash Can
DJ Giddens, Indianapolis (3 percent Yahoo!; 2 percent ESPN; 81 percent Sleeper)
Giddens saw plenty of action in garbage time against Miami on Sunday as the Colts cruised to a 33-8 home win.
With Tyler Goodson out with an elbow injury, Giddens, a rookie fifth-round pick, stepped in nicely as Jonathan Taylor’s back-up with 41 yards on 12 carries. He saw 25 percent of the snaps, mostly in the fourth quarter, and sets himself up for more playing time until Goodson gets healthy.
The Colts running game will find it tough as they play host to Denver and their dominant defense in Week 2.
WR Waiver Wire Stash Can
Casey Washington, Atlanta (1 percent Yahoo!; 1 percent ESPN; 3 percent Sleeper)
Washington was a pleasant surprise when Darnell Mooney was an inactive for the Falcons’ Week 1 matchup against Tampa Bay.
Mooney has been working to return from a shoulder injury and team believed he needed more time to heal before returning to the starting lineup.
Washington filled in nicely in Mooney’s absence. The second-year player, who played a team-leading 95 percent of the snaps, was targeted six times and hauled in 3 passes for 33 yards.
Mooney could return in Week 2, but Washington gives Michael Penix Jr. another target in the Falcons’ offense.
TE Waiver Wire Stash Can
Harold Fannin Jr., Cleveland (1 percent Yahoo!; 1 percent ESPN; 6 percent Sleeper)
Fannin Jr. is more than likely going to be picked off the waiver wire in deeper leagues, but in smaller leagues, he is someone you can stash on your bench.
The rookie finished with 7 catches on 9 targets for 63 yards in the loss to Cincinnati and had a 20 percent target share. Add in, he played on 72 percent of the snaps and had a 71 percent route participation.
As @blitzlink_ said on X on Monday, David Njoku is still the starter, but if the Browns start off really slow, Njoku may be on the trade block to only increase Fannin Jr.’s value.
