New York Jets 2026 Schedule and Key Matchups

This is the time of the NFL off-season, when nothing much is going on.  In the sports world, it’s one of the busiest times of the year as the NBA and NHL playoffs take center stage, along with the MLB season rolling.

Last week, the NFL released the 2026–27 schedule, unveiling the road each team must navigate in hopes of reaching Super Bowl LXI in Los Angeles.  The New York Jets, who are looking to change the narrative of their franchise, will look to make the most out of their schedule, as they have one of the easiest schedules in the league.

The New York Jetsschedule looks as normal as it can get.  One thing to note is that they were awarded no primetime games, yes, you heard that correctly, and the last time that happened was 1981.  It’s more of a normal schedule because almost every game has its kickoff time at 1 PM, with two games scheduled for 4 PM.

What’s positive about the Jets’ schedule this year is that it’s ranked the fifth-easiest schedule in the league.  So, if this current Jets regime wants to see progress with their rebuild, this schedule should help them out.

With no primetime games, it should add more of a chip on their shoulder to prove to the league why they aren’t the same old Jets.  The Jets overhauled the roster with veteran talent and drafted studs like David Bailey and Kenyon Sadiq to help out the Jets this year and make them watchable.  With that being said, let’s take a look at their schedule.

Key Matchups

Week 1: Jets vs. Titans- Robert Saleh Reunion

The second straight year that the Jets face a former member of the franchise.  Last year, the Jets opened up the season against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Now, they will open the 2026–27 season against former head coach Robert Saleh, who led Gang Green from 2021 to 2024 before being fired five weeks into the 2024 season.

This game is certainly circled on Robert Saleh’s calendar as he looks for revenge against his former team.  Former Jets who will look to dominate against their former team include Jermaine Johnson, John Franklin-Myers, Tony Adams, and Solomon Thomas.  The Titans are coming off a strong offseason as they added Carnell Tate to their wide receiver room, and they’re expecting Cam Ward to take the next step forward in his sophomore season.

For Aaron Glenn, winning week 1 in his second season is crucial. This is a statement game that will set the tone for the season as the Jets will look to change the narrative around the franchise. Glenn is looking to take the next step forward in his rebuild of the Jets by improving their record, and it starts at Tennessee. Their former head coach won’t make it easy for them, so they must prepare to dominate.

Week 2: Jets vs. Packers- Early Test for Aaron Glenn’s Team

The Jets’ home opener will be against one of the NFC’s strongest teams, the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are a playoff-caliber opponent and a good measuring stick for the Jets, who look to prove they can compete against legitimate contenders. This will be Aaron Glenn’s first test against the Packers, a well-coached team led by Matt LaFleur.

Jordan Love leads the Packers’ passing attack and will test the Jets’ secondary, which failed to record a single interception last year.

Week 3: Jets at Lions- Aaron Glenn Faces His Former Team

The Jets travel to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions, a formidable matchup as the Lions have one of the most explosive offenses in the league, led by quarterback Jared Goff and superstar running back Jahmyr Gibbs

Aaron Glenn will be facing the Lions for the first time since becoming the Jets’ head coach. Glenn was the Lions’ defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2024. He was a big part in helping Dan Campbell turn around the Detroit Lions from a laughingstock to a Super Bowl contender. Glenn was instrumental in transforming Detroit’s defense into one of the league’s toughest and most physical units.

It’ll be an emotional matchup as Glenn was a big part of Campbell’s staff and rebuilding the culture in Detroit. Glenn would love the opportunity to beat a coach he once worked under, making this one of the most intriguing matchups on the Jets’ schedule.

Both teams are familiar with each other. Glenn has familiarity with Detroit’s personnel and offensive tendencies, while Campbell also knows Glenn’s defensive philosophy, making it a chess match.

Week 6: Jets vs. Patriots- A Chance to make a statement within the AFC East

This is the first AFC East matchup of the season for the Jets. The Jets struggled against AFC East opponents, losing all their divisional games last year. This game is another statement game for the Jets, who look to prove that they can compete within the AFC East, especially against the Patriots, who have historically dominated/mocked them throughout their rivalry.

Winning this game could be huge for the Jets against a Patriots team coming off a Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks, potentially facing a Super Bowl hangover, and amid offseason drama surrounding head coach Mike Vrabel. The Week 6 matchup against the Patriots could set the tone for the rest of the season.
