4 Players to Sit in Week 7

Week 7 of the 2026 NFL season is here, and with fantasy football matchups becoming increasingly important, making the right start-or-sit decisions could be the difference between a win and a loss. While some players are coming off breakout performances, others face difficult defensive matchups, inconsistent workloads, or declining production that makes them risky options this week. Before locking in your lineup, it is important to look beyond name recognition and recent performances and examine the statistics, matchups, and opportunities that could determine each player’s fantasy value. Here are several players you should consider sitting in Week 7, along with the numbers and matchup concerns that could make them disappoint.

Michael Penix Jr. Vs San Francisco 49ers

Over the first 7 games, Penix has dealt with injury and inconsistent play; he currently ranks as the 21st QB in fantasy points per game. Even with this star-studded Atlanta Falcons roster, Penix still hasn’t consistently performed at a high level. Among the 33 qualifying QBs, he is ranked 30th in highly accurate throw rate and 21st in catchable ball rate. Penix also has very little to give on the ground when it comes to fantasy production, as his current rushing floor is nearly nonexistent at 5 yards on seven attempts for the season. With only one game above 15 points, after viewing the whole sample size it seems like that one great game is more of an outlier than a true data point. Penix has also been very prone to injury, and at times he looks like he is purposefully protecting his previously injured knees.

On the other side of this matchup is the San Francisco 49ers, who have been extremely impressive through the first 6 games of the season. Fred Warner looks like an ageless wonder that can still lay the wood on any given tackle. San Francisco is currently ranked 9th in passing yards per attempt and 9th in passing success rate. Only one QB has thrown for over 300 yards on the 49ers, and no QB has thrown for more than 2 passing touchdowns against them. In this case, you should use caution with Penix, and if you have a QB option with a better matchup than I would keep Penix on the bench and start someone else.

Tony Pollard Vs Cleveland Browns

Tony Pollard is historically one of those guys that no one wants on their team, but then at the end of the season he is a back end RB 2 or good flex option. Pollard currently has the lowest fantasy points per touch out of all qualifying RBs, while averaging less than 60 yards per game so far in 2026. In 2026, Pollard has had issues finding the end zone, only tallying 1 TD so far in 2026, and less than 60 yards a game does not equate to being a successful fantasy starter. Even in PPR Pollard doesn’t have much of a upside to offset his low rushing totals, so far this season he only has 24 yards receiving. Pollard has scored less than 8 points in 3 of the last 5 games, making him a highly risky play.

On the flip side of things, Cleveland has been stout against the run and has only allowed 1 rushing TD on 154 opposing carries so far this season, making it around .65% per carry. If Pollard does not see the end zone than he is in line for another mediocre day, as far as fantasy production. Pollard is a reasonable bench candidate, particularly in PPR leagues where his receiving production should be a strength but hasn’t been.

Devonta Smith Vs. Dallas Cowboys

For starters, Smith has been dealing with a hamstring injury that could greatly hurt his potential this week vs. the Dallas Cowboys. This week in practice, he has logged 2 DNPs, creating real risk for lack of speed and seperation while running routes. With these injury problems, PFF currently has Smith ranked as WR 21 in Week 7. Although Smith had great fantasy success in Week 6, scoring 20.5 points, I believe that will be hard to duplicate this week. Joey Porter Jr. could get the matchup against Smith, and I believe if this happens, Porter will get the best of Smith in Week 7.

The Dallas Cowboys have been stingy to outside receivers, allowing the 6th lowest yards per target and the 13th fewest fantasy points to outside WRs. I would definitely expect the Cowboys to bring pressure the young signal caller Tanner Mckee. With a culmination of the injury, the JPJ matchup, and the expected pressure from Dallas under new defensive adviser Mike Pettine, I would be extremely cautious in trusting Smith vs. the Dallas Cowboys, and I would even say he is a must sit.

Harold Fannin Jr. @ Tennessee Titans

Fannin Jr. has been a curious case in 2026, as he has the potential and talent to be a star, but the Browns just do not seem to be using Fannin to his full potential. In Week 7. Fannin Jr. is the 15th-ranked TE by PFF, showing there are a few options to start over him this week. Over the last two outings, Fannin has only brought in two catches on seven targets, and averaged just 6.5 yards in each contest. Along with this, he has only had three red zone targets and only one downfield target; this will also limit his fantasy production.

Fannin Jr’s target share and yards per route run are both lacking in 2026 at 16% and .97, this shows that Fannin struggles to turn his routes into fantasy points, which can be very troublesome when facing a defense like the Titans. Fannin holds a bit of TD dependency if you expect him to put up numbers for your team. The Titans are stingy against TEs so far in 2026, and fantasy owners may be disappointed with Fannin Jr’s production. The Titans have been very successful at stopping TEs this year, allowing under 30 yards per game to opposing TEs, all while not allowing more than 35 yards to a TE in the first 6 games. With his recent lack of production and the Titans’ ability to limit tight ends, Fannin is a risky fantasy option who may be better left on the bench if a more reliable alternative is available.

As Week 7 approaches, fantasy managers need to be careful not to let big names or one impressive performance influence every lineup decision. Difficult defensive matchups, inconsistent target volume, limited scoring opportunities, and recent struggles can all signal that a player may be better left on the bench. Although every player has the potential to outperform expectations, understanding the risks behind each matchup can help you make smarter decisions and avoid leaving valuable fantasy points on the table. Ultimately, trust the numbers, evaluate your alternatives, and prioritize the players who give your lineup the best chance to win in Week 7.
