Bills Shut Saints Down; Advance to 4-0

The Buffalo Bills moved to 4-0 on the season and remain undefeated thanks to the help of a record-breaking performance from James Cook. With 8 Straight games with a Touchdown, James Cook broke the Buffalo Bills team record of consecutive games with a Touchdown (8). The previous record was held by Robb Riddick (1988), O.J. Simpson (1975), and Cookie Gilchrist (1962), who each had 7.

Game Recap

Many fans, like myself, wrote the Saints off as they were 0-3 heading into the matchup, but they stayed in the game until the very end. Although they played sloppily, Buffalo was still able to manage 31 points on Sunday. James Cook once again dominated on the Bills’ offense, solidifying himself as the 2nd best player next to Josh Allen with 135 total yards and a TD. New Orleans ended the game with their 4th consecutive loss, and it may be time for a change at the QB position following an 0-10 record as a starter by Spencer Rattler.

My Player of the Game

Khalil Shakir wins my player of the game this week with 5 receptions for 69 yards and a highlight-worthy TD, which saw him display his broken tackle ability. Shakir set the tone for the game with that play, as he remains one of the best receivers after contact in the league.

Time For Shough?

Spencer Rattler is 0-10 as a starter, rookie HC Kellen Moore needs to make a move so he’s not just a one-year bridge coach, could Tyler Shough give the offense a spark? Possibly, while I am not personally high on Shough, it quite literally can’t be worse than losing 10 straight, and if it is, it just sets Kellen Moore and the Saints with a premium draft pick that can be used on one of the QBs in the upcoming draft class.

When to Expect Bills Veterans to Come Back

Key defensive veterans Ed Oliver and Matt Milano missed another game, while Buffalo remains 4-0. It is vital to the continued success of this team for its veterans to be back on the field sooner rather than later. Oliver sustained a left ankle injury before week 2 and has been sidelined since. It is expected for him to be healthy soon, and while there is no timetable, I’d safely assume he’s week to week with optimism he will be healthy by the Chiefs game in week 9.

Matt Milano, on the other hand, may be back as early as this week against the Patriots, as his status changed recently to day-to-day. The pro bowler solidifies the Bills’ linebacking core with captain Terrel Bernard. If Milano isn’t ready for this week, he will certainly be ready for Buffalo’s week 6 matchup versus the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.

Upcoming Schedule

The Buffalo Bills sit at 4-0 as they head into what some consider a fairly easy ride through October. With the next few opponents being the 2-2 New England Patriots in week 5, the 2-2 Atlanta Falcons in week 6, a week 7 bye that’ll get their veterans some much-needed rest as they end October with a week 8 matchup versus the 1-3 Carolina Panthers. The odds are in Buffalo’s favor to be 7-0 heading into a pivotal week 9 matchup for the Kansas City Chiefs.
