The Top Waiver Wire Pickups in Week 5

Week 4 was another exciting, thrilling NFL week, with action-packed games all day. Looking back at Week 4, waiver wire additions play a crucial role on your fantasy teams and could benefit you for the rest of the season. If you drafted Jadarian Price but picked up Ollie Gordon III off waivers, then you have the perfect RB2 for the rest of the season. If you have Justin Herbert as your QB1, I hope your backup QB situation is intact, or take a shot at Michael Penix Jr.

With the number of injuries this season, backup players have chances to shine and become waiver-wire treasures. So far this season, there have been a ton of players in the waiver wire to pick up for your fantasy teams.

That said, let’s look at which fantasy players are worth picking up off the waiver wire heading into Week 5.

Darius Cooper, WR (PHI)

DeVonta Smith unexpectedly landed on the injury report with a hamstring injury, opening the door for second-year undrafted WR Darius Cooper. On Sunday, Darius Cooper is a popular waiver-wire target because he caught 3 passes for 33 yards and 2 TDs, resulting in 18.3 PPR points.

Over the first four weeks of the season, Darius Cooper has made a name for himself. In Week 1, he caught the game-winning TD to help the Eagles beat the Tennessee Titans. His two TDs on Sunday show that Hurts has been looking his way in the red zone more than the rest of the Eagles’ targets. With Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert missing time, he saw more playing time. According to Brandon Lee Gowton of Yahoo Sports, even though it’s only one week, it’s worth noting that Cooper outsnapped Makai Lemon as WR2, commanding 7 targets while playing a role on special teams.

Darius Cooper shouldn’t be underestimated and will be a hot waiver-wire target. He’s rostered in only 1% of leagues, per FantasyPros.

Keon Coleman, WR (BUF)

Keon Coleman hasn’t had an easy NFL career so far, and it’s crazy that he’s still with the Bills instead of another NFL team. Recently, Coleman has put together some nice fantasy performances, with one of them being a breakout performance on Sunday against the New England Patriots, catching 6 of 7 targets for 116 yards and a TD.

If D.J. Moore re-aggravates a shoulder injury, Coleman could get more playing time and a larger target share. Coleman also benefits from being in one of the league’s most explosive passing attacks, giving him high weekly upside. So far, he’s caught 14 of 16 passes sent his way this season, showing high-end reliability when called upon. He has earned a 75.9 overall PFF grade and a 78.5 receiving grade, ranking him 16th among 82 qualified WR’s early this season. If you have injuries on your fantasy team, Coleman is a hot waiver-wire pickup and is rostered in only 8% of leagues, per FantasyPros.

T.J. Hockenson, TE (MIN)

While Minnesota Vikings star WR Justin Jefferson missed the Vikings’ Week 4 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, T.J. Hockenson stepped up and delivered one of the best games of his career. Against the Dolphins, Hockenson caught all 13 targets for 119 yards, totaling 24.9 PPR points and making him a top waiver-wire target.

With Jefferson out, Hockenson became the focal point of the Vikings’ passing attack, commanding a team-high 13 targets. With Josh Oliver on IR, Hockenson has more opportunities, as his snap count has doubled. Kyler Murray is known for favoring his TEs in games, and this Sunday showed that. CBS Sports noted that Murray had success feeding the ball to Trey McBride last year in Arizona, with McBride posting a 29-275-1 line on 42 targets during the five games that Murray and McBride were in the lineup together. This past Sunday showed that Murray and Hockenson can form a strong connection.

Hockenson is a rising waiver-wire pickup, as he’s rostered in only 43% of leagues, per FantasyPros.

Will Shipley, RB (PHI)

Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby suffered injuries on Sunday: Barkley suffered a hamstring injury, while Bigsby suffered a core muscle injury and is set to have surgery; he is now set to miss around 6 weeks. With injuries across the RB room, Will Shipley could be the Eagles’ only healthy RB and a key contributor.

As the only healthy back, Shipley is set up for heavy volume and a potential lead-back role. According to Sports Illustrated, Shipley is no scrub and not an RB to overlook. The former Clemson RB has shown dual-threat versatility, with 44 career carries for 159 yards and 16 receptions for 104 yards. His receiving background gives him strong upside out of the backfield, a safe floor, and multiple opportunities for fantasy points. Shipley is a fantasy RB you should target, especially if you have injuries at RB. Shipley is only rostered in 1% of leagues, per FantasyPros.

Emanuel Wilson, RB (SEA)

The Seattle Seahawks have had injury issues in their RB room since the start of the season. With Zach Charbonnet starting the season on IR, Jadarian Price adjusting to the league and now placed on IR, injuries have certainly affected the Seahawks. With that being said, Emanuel Wilson now has a clear-path to being the bell-cow of the Seahawks offense for the time being.

Emanuel Wilson has been a productive back throughout his career, but he was always an RB2. On Sunday, Wilson took over as the team’s RB1 against the Los Angeles Chargers and made the most of it, logging 21 carries for 81 rushing yards, catching 3 passes for 39 yards, and scoring a rushing and a receiving TD for 27 PPR points. For now, until Charbonnet returns, Wilson looks like the bell-cow of the offense, even with Joe Mixon added to the practice squad. According to Yahoo Sports, Wilson commanded 75% of Seattle’s RB touches.

Wilson should be a priority pick in your fantasy leagues, as he’s rostered in only 54% of leagues, per FantasyPros.
